Great item. Very sturdy.
Other than the price...triple what I paid at REI in the US (where I left it)...this is THE grid reader to have. Note that USGS topo maps use 1:24000 so this cannot be used with them.

The Cuts are No Good In My Book
THE GOOD: It came with material that would be very helpful to someone learning to use a protractor for land navigation. I hate to ship it back, it would make a great educational resource. Also, the printing on the protractor is clear and bold. And the material feels the right balance of rigidity and flexibility.THE BAD: If you look at the pictures, the triangular cuts are not at 90° angles and as such, they line up with one grid square but not the other, meaning there is an East/West deviation on where you plot your point depending on how far up the triangle your plotting. Funny enough, it's most prominent on the smaller two scales where it's most impactful. This is already a tool with a moderately low level of precision, you don't want this defect adding to your potential deviations of course. Could be the difference in life-or-death in some situations. Anyway, I want to like it, it's well made other than the poor cuts.
