Automotive Technology (4th Edition)

For students without experience this book is great. There may be some negative reviews regarding this text however I have never been under the hood of a car, working professionally, before I started an apprenticeship program and this book has greatly assisted in my studies. If you want to learn more about vehicles as a DIYer and have the patience and discipline to read the book and not just specific chapters then you will ultimately have a far better understanding of vehicle repair. This text does not encompass everything about vehicle repair but it does a significantly exceptional job regarding informing students about automotive systems. I also can say I have used the text to prepare myself for ASE exams with successful results. As ONE text in an education program this is a great foundation.

The textbook is comprehensive in coverage of Automotive Technology as of 2012, full color and the best layout in print, font, pages and organization are atractive to eyes, easy to read long. Very detailed in coverage and explanations.As a First Textbook in Automotive Technology you get a solid foundation to build upon. Good preparation for ASE certification exams.

I received this textbook and was shocked at the weight of the package. I thought it must be a pack deal of a book (a manual for lab and a manual textbook) but was very wrong. This book is near four inches thick and weighs 10lbs. The weight is burdensome. The content however makes up for it. Looking through the contents you have everything included that you would need for MULTIPLE automotive courses. Where was this textbook 7 years ago when I began college???? It covers braking systems, electrical systems, suspension, steering, (touches on) hybrid vehicles, and more! This takes up for the 4 books I had to use for several courses. For that reason it's worth it's weight! Plus had it been around I would have saved some money; cheaper to buy this than the several other textbooks required at the time.

In the school's book store it costs more than $200 with tax and everything. But I bought it for $135 here at Amazon. Great deal! But since it says "new" I was expecting it to come wrapped and include the code it's suppose to come with when it's really brand new. When I opened the box it wasn't wrapped and it didn't have the code. Although I didn't need the code I at least expected it to come wrapped. The book had dents and a little scratch. I guess it was cuz of the shipping process.Overall this is a good book. It has small chapters of almost everything. Some chapters are pretty long but obviously for a good reason. It's REALLY HEAVY! When I say REALLY heavy I mean REALLY HEAVY! This book gave me back aches every time I took it to school.4 stars for good quality but didn't make it to 5 cuz it wasn't wrapped!

The author of this text clearly has experience in this field. This text is full of real world advice. The text has some basic coverage of diesels, hybrids, and GDI that other texts lack. It is good for students and experienced techs looking for an update text.

This is a required textbook for my Associate in Automotive Technology program. The book is 25% cheaper on Amazon that in the campus bookstore. It is a very comprehensive book that addresses the newer technology found on today's auto's. A recommended buy!

The book itself is ok. The problem is, I figured I would go the easy route and have my iPad with the Kindle reader to carry this book to class. BUMMER! Once I had downloaded the book I find it is only for the Mac or PC, not for any portable device. I was under the mistaken impression that KINDLE was always portable. It looks good on the computer, but there is a big difference in carrying a laptop to class vs. carrying an iPad. They are both lighter than the book though. No impression like the first impression and this was not a great impression. Let me be clear, the book is fine, the KINDLE download experience leaves a LOT to be desired. I thought the download for Mac or PC was the software to transfer the book to a portable reading device. I won't make that mistake again. I don't understand calling it a Kindle edition if it doesn't work with Kindles and Kindle Reader software. It should be listed as a computer only download.

Currently studying in an automechanic tech program and love this book, there are a lot of visuals and they really go trough diagnostics and overhaul.I also love that the author does explain the scientific theory behind the principles being explained. Some of the teachers at my school have actually asked for this to be our official textbook as it is much higher quality than what we are currently usingI purchased a used copy which is in excellent condition.
