Excellent introduction
I have been considering starting to do more plein-air quick sketching and found this book to be a perfect launch pad to encourage me to get started and stop dithering about it.It provides details that encourage group activities where a few like minded sketchers can work together to minimise the self conscious feeling that you get when working alone within a group of people or in a crowded street. To date I have mainly relied on my camera used in a walk about situation snapping likely scenes for sketching at home in a more controlled manner but this book has inspired me to be more adventurous and get out there and get sketching from real life scenarios.Recommended reading for anyone interested in progressing their sketching in this direction.

An absolutely wonderful book for beginners learning how to sketch people
An absolutely wonderful book for beginners learning how to sketch people. This book has all the information you need to practice and it cost so little it is certainly an excellent addition to your pencils and your paints.

A bit amateurish!
If you are new to Urban Sketching this book would be okay giving tips on getting started, materials, kit etc. As I already have The Urban Sketcher by Marc Taro Holmes, this information was somewhat superfluous for me. The "detail" on sketching people was disappointing, and really didn't give me much more than Marc's book already had. The people sketches were quite "childlike" and I would have like a bit more in the section "Drawing the Details" .. sorry but this isn't for me.

A great book to encourage anybody who is nervous of trying to include figures in their pictures. Filled with lots of sketches that can be copied for practice or even included in your own pictures to add a bit of life to those quiet scenes. The biggest inspiration I got from it was that figures do not have to be difficult if only we could get over the start line and try it out.

Excellent addition to the library
This was an eagerly anticipated addition to my Urban Sketching library, and I wasn't disappointed. Superb explanations, illustrations and inspiration from a passionate artist and her fellow urban sketchers with huge experience in the field. This will be a 'go back to' book as it is so easy to dip in and out of. Putting people in my drawings has always felt daunting, this book is going to help a lot!
