Great book for anyone who wants to make a piece to last for generations to come
This is a fantastic book for anyone who has ever seen a hand carved Ships eagle but been reluctant to start on one. There is a good history of the premier ships eagle carver (John Bellamy) with plenty of pictures of his work, tools and my favorite, his magnificant Lancaster Eagle, which I hope too see in person some day. The details on how to carve one are first rate, with lots of pictures and easy to follow instructions that even give pointers on how to sharpen those pesky spoon bits. There are a selection of different styles given, along with their patterns and some fantastic tips on how to finish your masterpiece. When your finished, everyone will be amazed at the stunning piece of art you have hanging on your wall. Read and enjoy, then go carve your own.Rich

Good Book!
This book covers the carving of several eagles in the Bellamy style, complete with mainly basic outline plans for each. Each plan does not have complete feathering, etc., so you'll probably need to extrapolate for some plans from others.Color photos of each main step. Not for beginners, I would say, but shouldn't require extensive experience.

Great book, fascinating actually.
I bought this book simply because I was curious. After thumbing through it, I have decided to carve one of these beauties. The book contains plans for a simple Bellamy with a bunch of options to modify it if you wish. Cannot wait to get started. Great photographs and tips. Very nicely done. I am very pleased.

How to Carve Bellamy Eagles by Paul B. Rolfe
Good instruction on how to carve eagles in imitation of the style of John Haley Bellamy. It is a book worth studying. Carvers could easisly adapt the techniques of Bellamy and Rolfe to their own carvings. Patterns are outlines only and small and must be enlarged to the size desired.

Very instructive
The book delivers everything promised. Maybe not for the novice carver but anyone with a little carving experience will be able to replicate a Bellamy eagle with little difficulty. the photography is clear and the text is to the point. It belongs in any carvers library.
