Amazed it actually worked!
I admit I didn’t think it would grow. I put the avocado pit in the holder in January for about 4-6 weeks it seemed like nothing was happening. I swear there were at least 3 times I was moments away from throwing it out! Then, I began to see the seed open down the middle and a root grow from the bottom. Now, the root is really long and there is a sprout come out from the top of the seed. Pretty cool!

No holder for seed, just bowl
There is no holder for the seed with this set. I thought the first order was in error that the holder was left out (only received the bowl) so I applied for a return. Second time received just another bowl again, no holder for seed. Not sure what I'm supposed to do with this but now I have two plastic bowls basically because I haven't been able to make it to the post office. Would be nice if the company would send just the holder for the seed to supplement with what I have without me having to return the entire product. I still want to try to grow an avocado tree.

Fun!
This is such a cool little experiment. I have to admit, I didn't think my first attempt was going to work, because I couldn't get the skin off the pit and scratched it up really badly. But the root started growing after 2 weeks, and the top growth started after a month. I got the clear/clear version, and it sits on the shelf above the sink where I can keep an eye on the progress. After seven weeks, the top growth is 9" tall and starting to show leaves!Beware, this may inspire you to start buying other indoor plants...

Back to The Toothpicks!
I bought this thinking what a great idea. However never took in account the seed itself. It's weight, shape, etc. Unless you have a perfect shape seed (mine wasn't) my seed kept sinking in it's little floating boat like the Titanic. What a pain to try and keep it afloat. Possibly someone might do better with the HEMI Avocado planting bowl that is on Amazon due to its well rounded pointy arms.

Larger and slightly different than pictured but works as intended and for some it may work longer.
This product works as expected. The only thing I'd point out is that it's configuration was a bit different than the picture shows. It's larger than I expected and contained an extra part, but not a tray for under the water pot, as shown. Apparently the extra part is to allow you to convert it to a self watering grow pot when you finally move the young tree into live in soil. Perhaps a plus for some, but not for me as I plan to move the young tree into a regular flower pot when ready.
