Kids Knitting: Projects for Kids of all Ages

Best book to learn how to knit.
I had this as a child and ordered for a friend’s kid. She picked it up quickly. You will need some bulky wool yarn and needles to do do some of the projects, but most can be done with other yarn.

Brilliant! As a teacher
I knitted a little as a child but never got to the point of socks or sweaters. This book starts with the basics and leads children to their very first major projects. It throws in history, gives some projects to get started before knitting such as how to make your own knitting needles!I was beyond impressed, it explained what seemed impossible for me to decipher. I often find many craft books such as knitting and crochet presume a lot of knowledge, there is little out there for beginners to decode what the master patterns are talking about. This book teaches you how to do things in layman's terms and then by the end goes through what typical books expect you to already know and provides an exercise with a key for understanding the terminology. Brilliant! As a teacher, I'm going to bring this book to class... and start projects of my own. I've always found that if I'm bringing my craft projects such as sewing to my classroom and working on them during my free time, the children see this and get curious and start asking their parents for the resources to begin themselves. Best way to get your kids interested? Learn yourself and show your own interest in the project (even the all boys classes get interested in my projects and request me to make things to show them. They also learn appreciation of the effort that goes into making clothing and helps them respect their own). This book is well worth buying. I'm very inspired for myself and for my students... and when I have children, they'll be learning from this.

Great for adults, kids, and everyone in between
This book is a great introduction to knitting for anyone of any age, and would be fun to work on together with friends or kids. My mom works at an elementary school and brought this book home for the holidays. I'm a college student and perhaps an "advanced-beginner" at knitting and couldn't wait to get started on the projects. The book is well organized with special sections for materials and getting started. I've made several of the items in this book and they all turn out great. In addition, the way projects are presented is descriptive enough to give you the skills that allow for creativity and a personal touch. The book is filled with full-color photos of each project as well as illustrations of knitting techniques. There are very simple projects (garter stitch bean bags) through more complicated ones like socks, a backpack, and a sweater. The more advanced skills are introduce with the project, so new knitters won't be overwhelmed at the beginning. There are TONS of great items, most of which can be completed in a short amount of time with a relatively small amount of yarn. All the materials needed can be found at a local craft store (no need for a fancy yarn shop). Enjoy!

Not Just For Kids...
This is the book my 8-year-old daughter and I used together to learn how to knit. As the subtitle says, it's a book for kids "of all ages".When you read through this book you will not only learn how to knit, but you will have a deeper appreciation of needlework in general. The author covers what basic supplies you need to get started, how to make your own knitting needles (yes! And it is a lot easier than you may think), how to decorate your needles, why you should start using two different color needles, what to do when you don't have any needles (you can still knit with your fingers, the book shows you how!), how to make "kool-aid" yarn in super-fun colors, and where yarn comes from. The instructions were much simpler to understand than those in the traditional "adult books" and after finishing a few of the basic projects, I actually felt inspired to learn more, as did my daughter. If you are looking for a terrific alternative to TV and video games then definitely buy this book. There are plenty of photographs of girls AND boys from all different races and creeds who seem to be enjoying their time spent knitting, and the pages are splashed with fun colors and typeface.5 Stars. This is the very best beginners book on the market!

A great intro to knitting
I reviewed half-a-dozen books and kits for one to give my niece, who expressed interest in learning to knit. This was by far the best. Projects start with basic garter-stitch bean bags and progress through sampler-stitch scarves to a fun pair of socks and finish with a simple first sweater. The presentation is detailed, instructions are well-illustrated, and there are fun informational pieces, explaining where different fibers come from, and there are even instructions for making your own straight knitting needles.I also love the pictures of kids knitting, especially the prominent inclusion of boys and non-white children enjoying the craft. Knitting is for everybody!

Great book to learn from
I'm sixty-plus years old and finally taught myself how to knit. This book was one of my favorite resources. Its explanations and illustrations help with the basics, plus the projects are fun. My first hat was the two-squares-knitted-together project from this book. It became a sampler project for me, but this book also has a sampler scarf and several stitches to try. I love the wizard hat that I just finished. I did it in the adult size; the modifications are spelled out in the book.

Click Clack
This book was bought for a 10 year old who is just "getting into" knitting. She loved it! It showed her easy ways to do things that are quite complicated and the combination of the writing and the pictures offered clear and easy explanations. Highly recommended for those who are interested in doing more than "knit one / perl one".

Lovely Knitting Book.
Arrived quickly and in good condition. Some of the patterns are probably for the slightly more advanced young knitter but it's a colourful and attractive book and for slightly older children more appealing than some of the other books on over appealing to a very young audience. I liked the idea of making your own knitting needles !!
