See and Sew: A Sewing Book for Children

A Timeless Treasure in My Eyes
Bought for my 5 year old granddaughter, but it never got passed on to her. This book took me back to the Dick and Jane books I read as a child. Just love the entire mood and style of this book! The granddaughter and I share the book at my house. It was one of the best children’s sewing books I purchased. Very informative and easy to convey lessons of sewing.

Old fashioned, but still fun projects for kids
This book is so cute graphically. It reminds me of something my Mom would have had as a child. The projects are not modern looking, so don't expect that when you get this. They are things that my Mom would have made as a child. A sock puppet, an egg cozy, a hot pad. But they are still fun to make and my 6 year old has loved looking at it and choosing the projects that we can do together. Very good for beginning sewists.

See and Sew: A Sewing Book for Children
This is an excellent book for working with young children who are interested in sewing. All the basics of sewing are explained in simple terms and are well illustrated. I work with 8 year olds and they were delighted with the draw-string bag project. I will soon be doing the sock doll project with after I have them make the frog pin cushion. Children are eager to sew and do have the patience to learn to thread their own needles, make knots, and sew various types of stitches. They love the finished projects. This book will add a lot to my classes where I have taught embroidery and applique as well as simple sewing.

Beginner hand sewing
I bought this book for my 5 and 7-year-old girls. First, we went over the stitches together and practiced on some scraps. Then when they felt ready to do a project they chose what they wanted to do. The book is helpful for basic guidance and ideas. I liked the illustrations.

Great gift!
I bought this book for my grandaughter for Christmas. After looking it over, I wanted to keep it for myself. It is that beautifully done.I did give it to her and she loves it. She is 11 years old. When I visit them (they live in another state), I am looking forward to spending more time looking thru it.

Good book for beginners.
This book is a perfect beginning sewing book. As my crafter, my niece will get lots of practice with this book. Can't wait till we get her a second book.

See and Sew: A Sewing Book for Children
This is a lovely, hard covered book with great clear instructions and diagrams. It even includes different patterns for simple projects (all hand sewing), alphabets and instructions for embroidery. The only thing that I would change about it is that it would be easier to copy the patterns and to keep looking at a diagram if the book were ring bound and would lay flat. Other than that, it is perfect for those who are beginning to sew. I look forward to using it with my grand-girls!

A substitute for Grandmother!
My granddaughter wants to make doll clothes but doesn't live close enough for me to teach her. So, I purchased this book with its clear photographs, explanations, patterns, and directions. I added all the things she needs in a sewing basket with a variety of fabrics, buttons, and bows. It won't be the same experience as learning from her grandmother, but sometimes you need to find a good substitute teacher. This is a charming book and just what I was looking for. And, it might even help grandmothers teach a little better!

Lovely, old-fashioned book
Bought for 7-year-old granddaughter to go with her first sewing box, she absolutely loved it. Lovely, old-fashioned illustrations and instructions. Just one thing: the book is an American publication, so it has American spellings.

Sewing for children
A lovely book, great for little people interested in sewing like the grown ups. Good to follow and a nice present.

Its not spiral bound!
Very lovely book and I agree with the previous reviews. However, I was looking forward to receiving the spiral bound version advertised. Mine is not and it will be difficult to have the book open and do the exercises. We will have to bend the spine right back and put weights on the pages. So disappointed but the actual book is charming and a good price.

AMERICAN BOOK...sigh
I really liked the retro look of this book but was very disappointed to find it was American. The spellings and terminology used are not appropriate for British children so I have returned it on those grounds. How on earth are children supposed to learn to spell correctly when they are bombarded with (wrong) American spellings? Some of the terms used just aren't heard here either though I am sure that will change over time as there seems to be ever increasing Americanisation creeping into everything nowadays. I wish Amazon would include a warning when a book is American.
