Inspiring and enlightening
Excellent roadmap for anyone wanting to be fitter, trimmer, sharper, happier! This book packs in so many insights on working out, nutrition, motivation, alleviating pain.... It’s easy and fun to read, and I like that the author pulls not only from her experience working many years with clients, but also from lots of interesting research findings. She’s very realistic and has doable advice with no gimmicks. Just a few of the many things I found enlightening: why flexibility and stretching are not that important, and why mobility exercises are much more so; why you don’t need 10,000 steps a day to be fit; why running a little is actually better than running a lot; the smarter way to walk; six key things to do to lose stubborn lbs; why genes are not your destiny. If you have any back, knee, or any other pain, there’s helpful info and lots of inspiration for feeling better and keeping moving. Plus there are fresh tips on tweaking your mindset in small ways that make a BIG difference. Great read!

Author Finley Questions My Assumptions and Encourages Lasting Change with Small Consistent Steps
“The Smarter Way: To Exercise Think Eat Move Live is an interesting and worthwhile read. The chapters are short, to the point, and deal with common assumptions of health and fitness. The friendly and approachable style makes me feel like any of the topics could have started as a congenial conversation in the gym. Popular myths and assumptions are discussed with recent evidence-based studies, then the best practices are offered as a path for change. Of interest to me is that the revered practice of RICE-rest, ice, compression, and elevation-is being displaced by other, more effective protocols for recovery from injury or an intensive workout. I like the author’s practical and informed style. Each topic is 2-3 pages, stands on it’s own, and the chapters do not need to be read in order. It’s an opportunity to read and delve into the subjects that interest me or that I need most. I appreciate the additional resources offered in most of the chapters.

Fast read! Very motivating!
I suffered a tragic loss in my family a little over two years ago and it propelled me into a deep depression, a feeling of being lost both physically and emotionally. This book was a quick read and reminded me of how important it is to get up and move. The author, Susan Finley, avoided information overload by keeping the chapters concise, entertaining, and thought-provoking,. It reminded me that I am not a slave to my emotions, nor to my genes. Susan Finley did a great job explaining the need for strength training as we age and made me want to clear my cabinets of processed foods. In essence, she made me want to get off my bum and do some push-ups, grab a kettlebell, and start taking care of myself again. It was also full of information that I wanted to share with others. Definitely worth the read!

Exercise simplified. Cut the BS
Simple and to the point reminders of WHY movement and healthy choices MUST stay a priority in our lives. My copy is full of highlights from the author’s knowledge bombs she drops- all written in terms that anyone can understand. While I was reading the book I got so inspired I got off the couch and went out and ran my quickest mile time (I’ve been working on it for the past month and a half but lost some motivation about 2 weeks ago). It’s all about movement as medicine and moving to improve our quality of daily living. It is as simple as starting with drinking two glasses of water per day. Who knows where it will lead you, but I hope it leads you to a healthier, happier and more fulfilled life.

Start your health journey here!
This book is an excellent overview of the things that lead to a healthy life. There is information on topics you expect-exercise, nutrition and sleep. But, the author debunks myths with the latest science and her own personal experience. There is also helpful information on topics you might not expect, like a good office setup and how to sit in your office chair to what type shoes to wear for good health. Each chapter is short and easy to read with words of encouragement. If you want to take a deeper dive, there is a long list of reference material in the appendix.I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to improve their health or wanting confirmation that they are on the right path to good health.
