I Definitely Highly Recommend This Book
Invaluable Analysis of the history and current portrayal of Blacks in Film/Entertainment. If you ever saw something about the way a particular black character was written or portrayed and felt it was racist/stereotypical but didn’t know how to articulate it……this is book for you. A must read for all ethnicities

Thought provokng...
A wonderful, in depth analysis of Hollywood and race and it's role in the perpetuation of racial stereotypes and in stifling the expansion of the real life roles of Black people as depicted in the media. Brilliantly articulated with factual content.

Highly insightful and very well written
This is a phenomenal piece of writing. It is very informative, enlightening, insightful, and at times entertaining in terms of the evolution of African Americans in film history and its correlation to social issues. It is a must-have for everyone's library collection.

Second Time Reading It -- Excellent
I read a few chapters from this book a few years ago from a course that I was taking. I took another class this past semester and this book was assigned. I can't believe I didn't read it the first time and only skimmed it. It is a fascinating look at the media, bias, and stereotypes that exist for African-Americans. It shows the way these stereotypes and characters have evolved. I didn't have to read all the chapters for the course, but I will definitely continue and finish it.

Bogle's seminal work is a must-read
An incredible book. A must read not only for those interested in 'race' and representation, but film fans in general. I initially owned a copy of the second edition of this book, but felt it was time to update, and I'm so glad I did! So insightful, so interesting, please please read this book.
