Lidia's Italian-American Kitchen: A Cookbook

Why do all the recipes call for 35 oz cans of tomatoes when only 28 oz cans are in stores?
Love her recipes but I have no idea why she calls for 35 oz cans of tomatoes to be used in most recipes in this cookbook. San Marzano tomatoes are available in the US in 28 oz cans.

Excellant cookbook
I had this book for many years and because of the use the binding was letting go, so glad I could replace it.

Mouthwatering and simple
I am a cookbook lover. I read them instead of novels and flag the recipes I want to make and actually make them! This is a beautiful book. All the recipes are made with simple ingredients you can get at your local grocery store; when I see a cookbook with most of the recipes having 10 ingredients or more and a page of directions, I steer clear if for the occasional splurge with the family helping - really makes for a fun time! But I digress, this is hands down on of my favorites. I'd buy it just for her chicken stock recipe. The easiest and most delicious I have ever had! Beautiful pictures, sweet stories of her life and how recipes evolved.I strongly recommend it!

Great Lidia, but not perfect
Four and a half, really. Every recipe in this book is working for me so far...until I got to Biscotti. While other biscotti recipes call for 1-3 cups of flour, Lidia's calls for 6, but she's the expert, so I used 6 in my first try knowing it was way too much, and knowing I should have checked baking911 for a second opinion. So I blame myself for a first-ever total baking failure. At least they are usually edible; aside from the predictable outcome of too much flour, the final product tasted like hardened library paste. But that's a minor (if expensive) flaw in an otherwise near-perfect cookbook. Lidia's style is warm and generous, and her main dish recipes are bullet-proof, almost as good as her restaurant dishes. The extra drizzles of olive oil are a matter of personal preference, but I still love her more'n my luggage. Brava, Lidia!

Love it!
Who doesn't love Lidia's cooking? I read cookbooks like most people read novels. Love this book and happy to add to my cookbook library.

A Cookbook That Belongs In Every Kitchen
This is truly one of my favorites - I don't think a week goes by that my family doesn't enjoy one of Lidia's recipes and it's usually from this cookbook. There's something in it for anyone who enjoys Italian cuisine - great appetizers, pastas, gnocchi, pizzas, meat and seafood recipes. Some of our favorites are Lidia's roasted pepper halves with bread crumbs, penne alla vodka, chicken marsala, drooling gnocchi and braised short ribs. All of the recipes are well written, easy to follow and produce delicious results. Unlike a lot of other cookbooks that I've seen, there are very few hard to find ingredients - just about everything can be picked up at the local market. The recipes are also very accessible to the average home cook - no fancy equipment or culinary degrees are necessary.I can't recommend this book highly enough - it really does belong in every kitchen!

Lidia's Kitchen
Fabulous book - I come from the area but now live in the UK but having the recipes for those favorites of mine with an American flavor can't be beat. Efficient service - got my book in no time at all.

Mal was anderes, italienisch-istrische Küche aus Amerika
