I took a gamble - it was well worth it
I am a small animal veterinarian and I have an interest in avian medicine and surgery. I have been looking for a good avian medicine book for a while. I saw this one and took a gamble based on the other reviews and some vague reference to this author from my university years. I am happy to report it was well worth it! I was really impressed with all the information especially the detailed drug formula at the back. This author must have a preference for raptors but it still contains a reasonable amount of general bird information as well. It also has detailed clinical pathology for a number of species of bird at the back of the book - i was not expecting that and that was really good. It is a book well worth buying.

Inconsistent quality throughout book
Some chapters are fairly well done (e.g., orthopaedic), but others aren't. Some of the photographs show little more than surgical drapes and hands, and makes one wonder why they were included. Most disappointing is the reference values index: very inconsistent data, and there are many errors in units. Revision for a third edition would be helpful, with very careful editing.

Five Stars
Great book, a must have if you are a vet dealing with falconry birds and avian medicine in general.

very recommendable
For people handling birds of prey with higher medical knowlege it is very helpful of higher standard. But you will still need the vetenary to perform the help for the birds

Avian Medicine
This is a very nice text which extends beyond just psittacines. The anatomy and pathology colour plates are fabulous.
