Q: Is this one made in japan?

No, the model advertised (SNZF15K1) is not made in Japan. The "K" in the model number means that it's made in Malaysia. If it were made in Japan, the model number would have a "J" in place of the "K". The Seiko models SKX007 and SKX009 which are made in Malaysia still have the same movement as those made in Japan. I would assume that is the case with this watch.

Q: can it handle swimming with it?

I've never tried swimming with it, which is ironic when you consider it's styled as a diver's watch

Q: Is this a mechanical automatic ?

Troy, no this is not a mechanical automatic. A mechanical watch requires manual winding of the mainspring. The automatic watch requires movement to wind the mainspring. However, some watches are both. You can wind the watch manually at first, then with the constant motion of your arm, it continues to wind itself. When I first received my watch, I tried to manually wind it. But that did not work. I would suggest checking this web page: tourneau.com for an explanation of the types of movements.

NIce look and feel, heavy

Heavy good quality really nice looking watch if you enjoy the chunky look. The back plate is also see through which means you can see the movement which is something I really enjoy. also a Diving watch which to me is nice as I am a diver. Really happy
