I am a fourth year in the Neurobiology/Pre-medical program at the University of Cincinnati. My group and I have conducted an experiment in our Neurophysiology lab to determine whether or not the NeuroSky Mindwave uses alpha and beta waves to display changes in meditation and attention respectively. We used our lab proven EEG system provided by the Neuroscience department to compare the EEG readings from both the NeuroSky and our EEG system.From the results of our experiment, we have concluded that the NeuroSky headset system is not using alpha and beta waves to show changes in meditation and attention. Furthermore, I was able to hold the headset within my hands, and the software started reading brain waves of my hand, which is obviously incorrect.We have determined from our study that the Neurosky system may be nothing more than a gimmick, and uses flashy words such as “brain EEG” to entice consumers into purchasing it.If you have any questions about the lab or the study itself that was conducted to determine that this product may be a scam, the link to the scientific paper is below along with the link to the Neuroscience program at The University of Cincinnati.Link to paper: [...]Link to program:[...]
