Great for group farewells ...
This is a lovely story that my daughter (a teacher) intends to read to her students on their last day of class along with a craft project to ensure every student takes one small blue bead with them as they move on...what a great way to send people forward with a reminder of those that walked before (and beside) them.

Nice pictures and good read for 6year old
Was happy with the story. Was a nice challenge for my 1st grader not too hard. Reason for a 4 was because in the kindle version even when u make the words bigger they are still too small for even me to read easily. I had to take over with reading because my son was struggling to see the words. After knowing this I would pick a paper copy over kindle version.

Used for Story of the World curriculum.
Cute book. Used with Story of the World curriculum. The first and second graders did not sit still for the reading of it, but third and fourth graders interacted well with asking and answering questions about the story.

Excellent Condition
We received this used hardcover book, On Small Blue Bead, that was labeled as in very good condition. It was wrapped in shrink-wrap plastic and upon opening it, looked brand new. This product is great and the seller is great!

Text? Yes! New illustrations? No!
I have loved this book for SO long, so when I saw this new addition I ordered a copy. I still adore the text. It is pure magic. I was very disappointed in the new illustrations, though. The original illustrations were often inside the cave lit by the fire with the feeling of the dark just outside its glow. Completely stunning and almost haunting! I miss them in this new addition.

Poetic and pleasant
We were hoping for something perhaps a little more "historical fiction" than what we found in this book. What we found instead was a poetic, beautifully illustrated peek into the life of a young boy in the distant past, and we're left with a delicious "what if".As a read together book, it's delightful. As historical fiction, not terrible but slightly disappointing.

Nice bridge between the past and present for children.
This is a nicely written book linking the past with the present. Good perspective for children.

Simple story, simply told. Resonates powerfully.
This is a simple story for young children with few words. But it throws open vast distances of time. At the age of five, it broke open doors in my imagination. This is not a story of the fantastic or the amazing. Rather, it is about an isolated tribe - in the stone age, perhaps? Who knows. The finding of one, small blue bead tells them that there are other people in the world.I've not seen this book for thirty years, and some of the pictures are still completely clear in my mind. Mesmerising.
