African CICHILD Aragonite 10LB Sand for Aquarium

Good sand

The media could not be loaded. I chose this substrate to add to existing aquarium containing African cichlids (shell dwellers: neolamprologus multifasciatis / multis) in hopes it would help buffer the water, raise the pH, and give them a finer grain sand because the like to dig. After reading the negative reviews I was a little apprehensive: many suggested the dust cloud never settled and they had to start over. I wonder how much these reviewers follow instructions and best practices…First off, the water never got that cloudy. I rinsed it well, added it to the tank, then put a flat dinner plate on top and poured dechlorinated water on top of the plate slowly. It was fine. Never got that cloudy and dust had settled by the evening.Secondly, the pH has slowly increased and it sitting around 8.0 (my tap water is neutral/7).Thirdly, the kh and gh have slowly increased and the water is now much harder than the soft municipal tap I use.Lastly, the grain is finer that what I was using originally and the multies love digging and spitting it. It’s very white and I like it better than what was there originally. If I was to test this aquarium down and reset it, I’d only use this sand for shell dwellers substrate as it is very attractive.I highly recommend.

Triple rinsed? I beg to differ! I’ve lost the better part of five hours of my precious family time due to cloudiness. The sand has been added carefully in a separate container wet, waiting till there are no bubbles, etc. Then, disaster: I waited a whole night, drained the tank, etc., then my filters and everything contaminated with fine telecom powder size residue. My whole tank looks like it's full of milk, and my fish are in distress, 3 complete water tank refills and draining later to resolve! Deeply disappointed!

I put the sand in today and the tank with plants looked like the empty one, initially —all dusty, but after turning my filter on and letting the sand settle it looks great!The small window sill tank had sand put in today, about 4hours ago and the more foggy water sand was put in about 30 mins ago.The whole washing helps 100%, but don’t expect to have crystal clear water right away.Lovely fine sand though :)
