Consistently great inspiration for kids and grownups who love to create!
My children and I are really enjoying working our way through this book and doing these drawing projects. The layouts are instinctive and the photographs really help to draw children's eyes to fine detail and new concepts that are playful and exciting. I am really impressed by how much ground this book covers in deceptively simple ways. It is straightforward and clear, but still requires focus. A great jumping off point for many conversations about how visual art works and working with new techniques for kids who love to draw and are hungry for new challenges - also really fun to use together with your kids, these exercises will creatively engage children and adults alike. Perfect for when you need a screen break and want to work on something together!

Fun, fresh, and beautiful
We just received our copy and cannot stop looking at it. My child has been working with Samara, the author for several years in art workshops and I am always thrilled with the projects. In fact, they are so beautiful that we have framed a few, and have others displayed in our home alongside the art we collect. This book is very comprehensive, great documentation, clear descriptions and fresh and fun ideas to get kids to love to draw while honing their skills. I plan to do the projects myself as well! This book is fabulous and an important one to include in any child’s library.

Must have!
Extraordinary! This is the book to have, to give, and to use. I’ve tried a bunch of the projects and they are clearly written and fun to do. Everyone had a feeling of accomplishment- that wonderful feeling of “look what I made!” I want to do these with adult friends too- they are all just low pressure, sweet explorations, could be a nice way to connect with friends. The book itself has many beautiful photos and is well made- feels good in the hand. Highly, highly recommend- it makes a great gift!

Best art project book I’ve ever gotten!
I’ve admired Samara’s work for a long time and was thrilled to learn that she was writing a book.Guess what? Her book is fabulous! Samara’s artistic touch is apparent in each idea. It’s full of thoughtful, ongoing projects that speak to children of all ages and respect the artistic process. I’ve used it for summer camp projects this summer to rave reviews. If you’re looking for a book to use again and again, this is it!

These are best for small groups
I appreciate these lessons but feel due to the high cost of materials used for these elementary aged children this would work best for homeschoolers or very well funded schools who have a small class size. In my opinion these are like college drawing class projects but changed down to elementary students but still using professional art supplies. Example: using a lot of charcoal (public school classes would destroy them, break them without very close supervision which is not possible with 30 to 1 ratio), using multiple professional pencil hardnesses, going outside to draw shadows, 90 pound or heavier watercolor paper, small tins for every student (like Altoids) to make a diorama. I am adapting these to use in my middle school Title I eligible art classroom public school. These are quick projects that will use a lot of supplies up fast. One exercise wants gigantic sized paper which is larger than the butcher paper rolls that the school buys. There is a lot of practice here that's quick and does not result in keep-able decorative pieces which means you will go through a lot of supplies, just something VITAL to consider for school teachers. As a former homeschool mom we could have chosen to do this in a small group of well-behaved students with multiple adult supervisors with good funding from middle class families.

bringing JOY to learning observational drawing
As a fellow process art studio owner, I have followed Samara for years on Instagram, gleaning inspirarion, but often left with many questions about how exactly she prompts her students to do the kind of extended observational drawing I often tried - often unsuccessfully- to have young children do in my own studio. I was BEYOND THRILLED when she announced the release of this book, ans since it arrived on my doorstep this spring, has been my go-to for engaging, open ended, and most importantly from the perspective of the children, JOYFUL observational drawing projects.

So Impressed!!
Wow!! What a gorgeous, useful, exciting book!! I am so tempted to take it to my children's elementary art teacher and say "Look at THIS! THIS IS how to teach art!!"The author's invitations and "provocations," her focus on noticing how the experience feels to the student, and lovely variety of examples of student art, all work together to empower a teacher to in turn empower students to explore the exciting world of drawing. It's a perfect book.

Provide new and interesting drawing invitations with this book by your side!
As a creative and art instructor, this book is not only extremely useful and valuable, but gorgeous to simply flip through.I have taught a few art classes based on the art experiences covered in Drawing Workshop for Kids and my students adored them! I look forward to diving back in this fall and offering more of the magic tucked within the pages.

I loved the activities and exercises. Simple , well explained, with less hassle of supplies. Someone with no prior knowledge of drawing can work with this book too!
