Install was easy. I like that it is relay based and runs on battery. My application was to control hvac in my motorhome so voltages differ from a home based system. I also really like the dual display. It is a bit expensive and a cheaper one would do the same thing if you give up the dual display.

Perfect replacement for our travel trailer
We have a travel trailer that is only three years old, but when we arrived this past Summer to open it up we discovered the factory thermostat had failed. I called all around and was told I'd have order one and it would be anywhere from $80 - $130! For a cheap little thermostat. I decided to do some more research and found a few interesting articles online where people used regular thermostats like this one to replace the ones in their trailers. You have to be careful and make sure you get one that uses batteries like this one does since the trailer does not supply a "C" wire (or something like that) with voltage to run the thermostat. And be prepared to read some wiring diagrams and switch some wires around at the thermostat. The only other thing is my old thermostat had a switch for high and low fan, this one does not. The solution was to wire it for high all the time. You could wire it for low all the time, or you could order a small toggle switch and mount it to this thermostat with some knowledge of soldering and electronics, maybe a 20 minute job. What I like:Big display with back light - This is great at night or even sometimes in the day since the area where this is mounted stay kind of dark. The old one was very hard to read. This one has big numbers and is very easy to read. After a few seconds the light goes out. Pressing any button causes it to come back on.It's digital - And being digital it seems to hold the temp in the trailer a lot better. The old one would have huge temperature swings, this one seems to keep it a little more constant.Looks good - The old one, even though it was only three years old, looked like something out of a 50 year old house. It just looked like old technology. This one is white, looks more modern, and has a friendly interface.Comments about my specific use:Our trailer stays at a campground so we don't tow it back and forth. We leave the electric turned on while we are away most of the time, so we have to make sure certain things like the A/C are turned off before we leave. This thermostat is all electronic. The old one was more of a mechanical adjustment. I know under the cover it was really electronic, but there was a mechanical switch to set it to cool/off/heat, so when we were ready to leave I could switch it to off and feel comfortable that it was off, since this is basically a mechanical disconnect. With this new one it is electronic, so the off setting is just a digital setting, not a mechanical disconnect. Normally this wouldn't be a concern, but I have a background in electronics and I stay awake at night thinking about stuff like this. And since we sometimes leave the trailer for a couple of weeks at a time, and longer in the Winter, I didn't want to worry about turning itself on after a power outage, or maybe when the batteries start to die. My solution is to remove the batteries before we close things up to head home. The battery compartment is easy to access on the side and pops right out with little effort. So that's just part of our process now and gives me peace of mind that the A/C isn't going to be running straight for three months in the Winter. This thermostat is not programmable, so you can't tell it to set certain temps during certain times or certain days. For my use I didn't want that functionality. This is simple, set it to heat or cool, and set the desired temp, and you're done. No 120 page manual to ready just to turn the A/C on.
