Simply put, Magical!
Just received this lens today! Extremely excited to give everyone a full review in the coming days. So far these are the few highlights for now:Looks big and heavy but it stops at big! Believe it or not, this lense really is not as heavy as it looks. Granted I shoot with a 70-200 f2.8 and 85mm f1.2 often and I am used to heavy lenses, but this is my first large lens and I am surprised to see how easy it is to hand hold this lens. Since it is already dark outside, I have been playing with the lens indoor and quite impressed with the focus speed. Even when the focus setting is set to full range, it doesn't hunt for long and provides creamy bokeh almost instantly.IS is very quiet (I tried but can't hear it yet), I am able to snap pictures at 1/15th hand hold with indoor lighting!Lens comes with nice case that is a decent size for travel.Going to give it a full review in few days. So far so good!-----------------UPDATE 1 after about two weeks of playing with the lens:Focus is extremely fast and quite. It takes time getting used to shooting at 400mm. Make sure you have a need for 400mm or you will find yourself annoyed that there are not much day-to-day need for a lens of this caliber. If you do find yourself needing a 400mm, you have found the one!It is light weight, solid construction just like all other canon L series but even a notch higher. It feels extremely durable. Picture quality is just amazing even wide open. I haven't quite seen a difference when stepping the lens down to 5.6 or more. The amazing distance and sharp focus of this lens, makes subjects pop out with no effort. IS is very very effective with multiple modes. So far I have not tapped too much into the two new fancy modes but the normal IS has helped me take pictures of any situation I have tried so far. When using with a canon 2x Mark III extender and Canon 5D Mark II, I lost autofocus even with middle point. I will try to update to latest firmware to see if it supports F8. Manual focus at 800mm is a fun exercise and will take a ton of practice but you have a telescope in your hands that you can handhold!Be advised when taking photos of items far away (more than a mile), you are condensing a ton of particles and junk, at first you may be disappointed at the quality of the pictures only to find out after a windy/rainy day with super clean air that lens proves to be very sharp.Color saturation is excellent, I give it a 10 out 10. My 70-200 gets a 9.5/10 and my Canon 85mm f1.2 gets a 9/10 on colors.Bokeh is creamy with nice circles of light as opposed to polygon. Try a green background and you will be amazed with how the subject stands out and how colors come to life. (Birds are perfect for this - See https://www.flickr.com/photos/bigmaster/16399421956/).Since this the first review of this lens, I will continue to update it as I go...

Lens not sharp!
I paid over $4000.00 for this lens, used, and it is less sharp than my $1000 RF 800mm and about the same sharpness as my $600 RF 100-400. Something is obviously wrong. Canon said there is no warrantee! Don't know what to do. Very disappointed.

Great Glass!
This is a sweet lens! Not only is it extremely lightweight, the images it produces are tack sharp, even at f4! I just shot for 3 weeks in Antarctica with this and it did not disappoint. Great for wildlife and landscapes. Mostly it was paired with my 7D Mark II giving me a boost in lens length. Yes, it costs a bundle, but THE most important part of any camera system is the glass.

My go to lens
This really has been my go to lens. It is very fast focusing, and considering that it is a telephoto, it is reasonably light weight. I generally like carrying my camera and taking hand held shots and this lens is perfect for that. The stabilization is superb. If you can afford it, it is one nice piece of glass. After about a couple years of ownership, it is still the lens that I use 95% of the time. I have a 1.4 teleconverter but I only occasionally use it. For me this lens by itself is a good compromise with weight, reach and optics. If mostly use it for birds and it has definitely upped my game.In 2022 this is still my favorite lens. It packs up well and works flawlessly with my R6 fire making videos I post my videos online on YouTube under Jim Zenor and heron. This lens just seems to take the most spectacular shots
