Love it! I can hear again!
I was diagnosed by the audiologist with moderate hearing loss and cannot afford the outrageous prices of prescription hearing aids, and my health insurance does not cover them unless the hearing loss was caused by injury or disease. Mine is caused by "too many birthdays" the otolaryngologist told me.....I decided to try this, based on reviews by others, and am so glad I did. I did not realize how much I was not hearing until using this little gem. What a difference! Being skeptical, I only bought one, to see for myself if this would work well for me. I have been wearing it for a week now and am totally impressed. I use a teeny bit of lubricant at the opening of the ear canal, and that makes wearing the amplifier so comfortable that I almost forget that it is in. It is also very discreet, almost invisible (even with my hair up) and the hearing quality has far exceeded my expectations. I just ordered a second one for my other ear. I do not mean to sound like a commercial, and was not paid for my opinion or given a free sample or anything, just took my chances, but I am so grateful for this and hope my reviewhelps others who have hearing loss to be able to hear again.UPDATE: The battery that came with it lasted one week. I panicked and thought the hearing amplifier was broken! When I replaced the battery it worked again, and apparently the new battery was much stronger, as I had to adjust the volume downwards because it seemed much louder than before. I scouted around online and it appears that hearing aid batteries do not last very long --- anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. This is not the fault of the appliance, but just the fact that the battery is tiny and thus can only hold so much power. If you take the battery out each night before bed and re-insert each morning, you will prolong the battery life. I would also suggest getting good quality name-brand batteries rather than generic and checking that the expiration date is a long way out.UPDATE, ONE YEAR LATER: I am still using my amplifiers and still totally happy with them! A friend of mine got hearing aids from an audiologist that look a lot like mine and function just as well, but she paid over $2,000 each for them. She states, "I get free batteries for life"......... Well, I think the difference she paid for the hearing aids is what's paying for the "free" batteries for life...LOL.....

I find it very difficult to adjust the column. ...
I find it very difficult to adjust the column. The column knob is very small I am a senior citizen wearing glasses it took several tries to get it right, it is still too loud. I'll keep it though.

Junk
Plainly put: there is nothing good about this earpiece. It has a volume control but it only appears adjustable between inaudible and screechingly bone-shatteringly blaring-- and nothing in between. Avoid this at all costs.

Exactly what I needed, at a fraction of the cost
This little gem works almost too good. I was diagnosed with mild-to-moderate hearing loss and talked to the specialist about buying some OTC aids to try. From what I understand the major difference between custom made aids and an OTC product is the impression that a large company makes of the ear canal. I purposely chose this model is because of the small stem which is convenient for removing the device. For whatever reason I was worried the amplifier, because it is so compact, would get lodged in my ear canal and would have to be dug out. I also have tinnitus and was concerned that the constant hissing I live with would be magnified. Nope, not at all. There are two adjustments and a handy little tool which has magnification on one which assists in placing the (included) battery. The other end is for making adjustments. Comes in a nifty white case too. I ordered two and have no reason to try anything else. For the price these can't be beat. A whole new world has opened up for under $140 for two amplifiers rather than that new world costing $5000-6000.

cofe Small Convenien Hearing Amplifier. CIC (Completely-In-Canal).
My hearing is not as good, so I have to crank up the TV volume and it's not good for others. So I need hearing aids. After some research and testing: Here are my requirements1. It must have Noise Reduction ( so low level noise will not be amplified - no noisy background). cofe Has that.2. It must have Feedback Cancellation ( no Super Loud Whistling/horn sound when you insert or remove your hearing aid into your ear:- loud noise can further damage your hearing) cofe DOES NOT have that.3. You must be able to buy both left and right ears hearing aid( as they are different and cannot be interchanged) cofe DOES NOT have that.4. It is better if it is CIC (Completely-In-Canal). cofe Has that.I return it because the Feedback Whistle/sound during insertion and removal of this hearing aid is too loud.I later bought the Austar T21 which has Feedback Cancellation. I am using it but unfortunately, Amazon is no longer selling it.Austar T21 met all my 4 requirements listed and it was under $300 for both ears.

Sized for larger ears
I wasn't expecting that much from a low cost unit, but was hoping to find something that I could wear during sports since my regular RIC's are constantly getting knocked off. Unfortunately, it did not work correctly for me. Here's why. 1. Although there are 3 sizes of plastic plugs included and the smallest is roughly the same size as the 7mm tip I use on my regular hearing aids, the unit itself was too big to sit properly in my ear. 2. I have moderate hearing loss (50-55 db scores on my audiogram) and to get the sound level high enough to make any difference, I couldn't get it to stop squealing. Perhaps this is because it wouldn't seat correctly since it was too big for my ear. That said, if you have larger ear canals than I do and have mild hearing loss (I'd guess up to 45 db readings) they might work for you. From what I could tell, the sound quality was acceptable. These are made by Austar / AST, and are model YZB/163-2013.
