Worth every penny!
I've used one of these for several years and have had no problems. It works very well. One of the big benefits of this plate is that I can use cheap pans that don't have the expensive sandwiched heat diffusion technology of brands such as All Clad. I can cook beans or chili for hours without having to constantly worry about it sticking to the bottom of the pot or burning. The plate is made of heavy anodized aluminum, probably aircraft grade. No cheap soft aluminum here. Highly recommended!Update 2/16/20: I have used both sizes for years and couldn't do without them. But just by accident I recently found a new use for them. I was putting a pan on the stove to heat tortillas but the diffuser plate was still hot from another cooking task so I just tossed a tortilla on it. It surprised me to see how much better the plate worked than a pan. It gets really hot without any smoke and heats a tortilla almost instantly without sticking, even on the bare untreated metal. I'll never use a pan again.

No more hot spots!
Although a pricey item I bought one of these discs ( 9" ) because I was tired of stirring sauces and soups in my cast-iron pots just to keep them from burning. Granted this is the type of kitchen tool that you can't help but be wary of because it's so simple and non-descript that you have to wonder if it'll work. But work it does. The disc is some kind of strong 3/16" thick black aluminum alloy that has proven to be almost indistructible in my kitchen. It will distribute the heat evenly under any weight pot and prevents flame damage to the bottoms of expensive crockery. (I might add that it you're a canping enthusiast using one of these - maybe the next size up - could make cooking a whole lot easier over a wood fire by preventing flames from reaching your hands and keeping ashes from floating up into your pot when you're cooking on an open flame.)Even at this price ( why can't stuff like this be made in the good ol' USA??) it's a very worthwhile investment. It's a tool you'll enjoy using in any cooking environment where heat distribution is necessary. It's simple, tough and does it's job well. I highly recommend it.

Diffuses Heat Superbly
Great for any pan, especially under cast iron where the need for a low flame centers it small to the middle, missing the edges. With this diffuser, it quickly absorbs and spreads the heat through itself and then to the pot or pan. You'll need to increase the flame a bit to compensate which is ideal, as it gives you more leeway to adjust and being stuck at the lowest and overcooking/burning your food anyway. Not with this, however. It's just shy of a 1/4 inch. Being thicker, it's less likely to warp and can store more heat. You might find your food still sizzling for 5 minutes after turning the flame off, so you might want to remove it to cool burner, or make use of the remaining heat. I've also used this as a meat thawing disk. After 30 minutes, the disk's temperature was 48 degrees! It will help for sure.Yes, it does slide if you shimmy your pan on it, and you'll need to recenter it. Either don't, or just lift it beforehand and then set it back down. I knock it one star for this, along with the lack of easy cleaning. The Vine Voice reviewer suggested using steel wool. Don't! It will remove or damage the anodized surface which protects the aluminum from corrosion. If you must, just use Bar Keeper's Friend with the soft side of the sponge. If you do, use barely enough water to make it toothpasty to clean best. Don't use oven cleaner, as that will etch aluminum.Eventually, it's going to get dirty and blacken up over the years, so don't fight it and damage the anodized surface with abrasive cleaners. If it is blackened after a few years, it's because it's been that darn useful. Kuhn-Rikon also makes the 4 pressure cookers I have, and they are all fabulous, too. It's overpriced at $46, yes, but at least it's best one. A fair price would be $30. Excellent aluminum is fairly cheap and so is anodizing.

This is a wonderful unit and it keeps the scorching at bay on ...
Not sure why I did't look for this sooner. This is a wonderful unit and it keeps the scorching at bay on the base of the pots. I see others have bought units that were less expensive and then they warp and discolour - classic case of you get what you pay for. I will be ordering at least two more of these in the future. I love that they are flat based as they slide around the top of the stove very easily if you need to move them. (My older ones have divets in the base to keep them from moving.) But this is much better. The wider one is defiantly the way to go too! One can alway put the smaller pot on the larger Rikon but not the other way around. Very pleased with this purchase!

Description says CAST IRON but product is aluminum
The website clearly states that this is CAST IRON. I wanted CAST IRON and the product packaging clearly states that it is aluminum alloy (see photo). It appears to be a nice product but it does not match the description. It’s more expensive than most diffusers, and I purchased the more expensive item because I wanted the cast iron as the web site stated. So, back it goes.

Excellent
These are excellent in quality and looks for placing on your burners. They give even heat distribution to my pans and a very sturdy base for them also. I recently purchased a high end range and these work so well for diffusing the heat on the high BTU burners. Lovely for when your using small pans as well.

Vale il prezzo!
Ottimo prodotto, finalmente uno spargifiamma degno di tale nome. Ottima la manifattura e ottimo il materiale. Non diventa brutto durante o dopo l'utilizzo. Fa il suo lavoro egregiamente.

Diffuser plate
Plate works wonders, allows for a slow simmer of roux for gumbo. Careful where you store it, it's also a perfect Captian America shield for a toddler. Potentially an awesome Frisbee in case of a zombie attack.
