Ham
This ham had a much different taste than the hams yot purchase in the store. It is not curred the way a store ham is cure with aa injection of solution. This ham is aged. The ham was lean. The taste was a bit salter which I liked but the taste was unfamiliar. Our guessed were not sure as to weather it was something they liked althought my son in law ate with gusto. For a new experience this is some thing worth trying. Research Smithfield Hams on the net. This will explain what makes the so special.

YES it is salty...
This is an awesome salt cured ham. They are very salty, and the meat is slightly dry, which is exactly what it is supposed to be. Wonderful to eat on some sourdough bread, great for parties. You can only eat a little at a time, but I just keep going back for more. Wonderful flavor.

Way to much fat!
That's the pig hide with all the fat between skin and meat. 10lb ham had 2lb of fat!Won't buy again.

25% (over $8 worth) water!! Ham was good but way more expensive for what you actually get to eat than the price on the package.
Ham was good and lots of meat. But the weight after draining all the water off was slightly over 10 lbs., rather than the 13+ lbs. I paid $2.69 a pound for. That's. over $8.00 for water and may be the reason for the other 1 rating due to dryness. If I had cooked the ham according to the directions on the package for 15 minutes and used the package weight, I'd have cooked the ham 45 minutes too long.

TERRIBLY SALTY CHARLES HENRY GRAY HAM--DO NOT BUY!!!
Ok Folks I will be very objective. I saw the Smithfield Home page and I was impressed with the reviews and the pictures of the hams. I needed to get an Easter Ham for a very special family reunion. I decided to spare no expense so I bought a very expensive $199. CHARLES HENRY GRAY HAM. The ordering was easy, the ham arrived in perfect condition in a beautiful black box, I was very impressed! On Easter Sunday I opened up the wrappings and saw what appeared to be a very very dry ham..the pieces of the pre-cut ham just "flaked off"...so I sprayed it will apple juice and water and the ham seemed to swell up a bit....we heated the ham exactly like the directions told us to. The result? A VERY SALTY HAM!! TOTALLY INEDIBLE!! Was I mad! I called the Smithfield customer service and they kept me hanging on the line for 30 mins and seemed surprised that I was still there. I told the Smithfield customer service rep I wanted my money back..she told me that the "taste" of the ham was "individual" and NOT a reason for a refund! SAVE YOUR MONEY DO NOT BUY THIS.. OR ANY SMITHFIELD HAM!!

Cheap poor quality and flavor
Im surprised. I always thought a ham was a ham. Smithfield is predominat in Florida and cheap. Cooked several. It's hard to describe except the taste is strange bad. Flat and cheap tasting. Outer turns grey color when baking. Sugardale brand hams are harder to find but heck of lot better than Smithfield. Also Farmer John brand is superior. Likewise I always thought deli ham was the same until Smithfield. Rubbery weak flavor nothing like DAK or other brands. Again I always thought ham was ham until Smithfield which stands out as the worst brand. Definitely can tell difference.
