Confusing design of the base relies on the adhesive of the sticky-mat
I have been using sticky mats for months now in our residence. We have a new wood floor and I hate to track construction dust into the house. I finally got tired of the blue mats sticking to my shoes and decided to buy this Plasticover Non-Skid Base. Although the manufacturer assured me that the instructions were in the box, they were not. Now, the manufacturer has a easily discoverable site and a speedy Chat functions so I was eventually able to figure out how these things go together. If I had only had instructions, with pictures, I might have had an easier time with it. I suggested to the manufacturer's rep that they provide the instructions on the Amazon site since they seem to get lost.FYI, The base is a white piece of plexiglass that is slipery smooth on the top side (next to the sticky-mat) and skid resistant (think of that rubber mat that goes on you kitchen shelves) on the bottom side. The magic trick is that, apparently ALL of the sticky mats sold by other suppliers (we are talking about the sticky mat, NOT the base) have a cover sheet on the bottom of the mat. You pull the cover sheet off the mat just like you pull the 30 or so membranes off the sticky-mat. Under the cover sheet is the last sticky mat witch is coated with adhesive on both sides. So you carefully place the sticky last sheet onto the slippery white base and, behold, it sticks to the base. The rubber on the bottom of the base keeps it from sliding and the adhesive on the back of the mat holds the mat to the base. Again, wouldn't this have been easier with a picture?Otherwise, it is a great product that needs a little more customer support.

Does the job, ideal for inside the home
I needed a base to use for sticky mats because I was determined to keep dirt and grime out of our house. The mats work great if they adhere cleanly to the surface where you need them. We've got engineered hardwood floors in our house and didn't want to even kind of risk damaging them. The base stays in place and doesn't slip when you apply pressure, and the bottom sticky mat adheres firmly to the base with no slippage. It's expensive for sure, but for something that you likely only need to purchase once for a long while, it's a good buy.

Two Stars
Not useful to me. Just a piece of plastic. expensive for what it was.

Great base pads
These are a MUST when using sticky/tacky mats on finished floors. These protect the floor finish from being damaged and are easy to lift out of the way for cleaning any contaminants from below the base.

Pricey, limited utility, tripping hazard
This is a piece of thick plexiglass with a gooey adhesive holding a piece of non-slip shelf liner covering one side. The adhesive is tacky and soft. As far as using this for cleaning your shoes before you go into a room it does elevate the sticky mats and may cause a tripping hazard. And for this to work properly the sticky mats must be purchased separately. I could see this being used in a area that is carpeted and the sticky mats won't adhere to the carpet or could maybe damage the carpet by sticking to it, otherwise the sticky mats can adhere on their own any smooth surface. The usefulness of this product is limited to increased tripping hazard and its poor value as it is extravagantly overpriced.

Essential to have with the sticky mats
Good addition and almost essential for reliable usage of the mats

Save your money and prevent accidents
Just an overpriced piece of plastic. Doesn't anchor to floor. Comes up when you step on sticky mat. A real tripping hazard.
