Clear, Concise, Instructive Book for 2 magical Exercise series
I stumbled upon an article (in Medium by Kaki Okumura, Feb 2021) describing the Makko Ho exercises so I tried them and immediately felt their effects. Wanting more information, I then found Lilian Kluivers YouTube video and found that very instructive. I very much liked her soothing instructions so I ordered the book. It was very clear both in terms of explaining the origin of the exercises and their effects as well as giving good instructions and pictures. It contains useful and practical ideas and suggestions based on Eastern Medicine that you can implement in your life in addition to detailed explanations of the exercises. It was also a fast read. The book does not contain filler and the pages are nicely laid out with clear photographs. I decided to follow the suggestion that Ms. Kluivers made in her book of doing the Matsunaga Series (she has an excellent YouTube video for this series as well) in the morning and then doing the Makko Ho stretches in the evening before sleep. I have read the book twice and I feel that the information in the book improved my practice of the exercises because I really understand them. I plan to read it again at some point in order to reinforce my understanding. I think I will be doing this stretching practice for life. I look forward to it and I feel more and more rejuvenated as time passes. I am in my 50s and I have dabbled with Yoga, Classical Stretch, weight training etc. throughout my life but these exercises feel very different. They are simple, easy to do and don't take too long. I am doing a little cardio and weight training during the week but these exercises are now an easy, daily habit like brushing my teeth. They leave you feeling youthful and flexible. Even when I wake up in the morning now and get out of bed before doing anything I feel flexible. My circulation seems to have improved. The exercises feel natural and I don't think they overdo the flexibility. I notice that a lot of Yoga teachers and long time Yoga enthusiasts (including my late mother) end up with back pain etc. Just Google Yoga teachers and hip replacements to get an eye opener. A lot of celebrated Yoga teachers have had hip replacements. Over enthusiastic Yoga can lead to excess laxity of the ligaments and all sorts of problems. I am also not someone who loves to exercise for long sessions. These Makko Ho and Matsunaga exercises are not showy. They are easy, feel wonderful and make your body feel youthful, comfortable and functional. I am so grateful that I have found them and Lilian Kluivers' book.

A comprehensive guide to two accessible for all Do-in Yoga practices
I have been studying and practicing Do-In Yoga with Lilian for three years and reading her latest book, The Essence of Makko-Ho and the Stretches of Masunaga, not only refreshed my daily practice but also brought some deeper insight to my understanding of the practice. Wether you already practice the two series or not, the book is a great support to better understand their origins and benefits but it is also an open and simple invitation to practice with texts, illustrations and many useful tips. Also there is a dedicated part to adjustments in case of limitation in movements. This book is a great gift for yourself and family and friends if you wish to explore or support the practice, actively take part of well-being, and easily include it in your daily life.
