Best in price bracket, for now.
So, while its hard for me to muster up the will to review this TV given the transient nature of TV model years and the likelihood that this specific TV will fade into the ether within weeks of writing this, here I am.I bought a Samsung first - they were touted to me as the unrivaled champions of the 4k TV. I bought one of their models that came out slightly cheaper than this set here (Think MSRP $800 vs. the $900 some for this). That Samsung didn't last the 30 day amazon return window before it hit upon issues like the wifi card failing and a full vertical line of dead pixels forming. I digress, I've gone over that on their page. On to the LG.This TV has been a dream by comparison. It has super bright, poppy colors and HDR support. It has a very clean looking bezel and a goodly sum of inputs. The remote works great and I love the "wii remote"-esque control with the mouse pointer. Programming it to control my cable box and A/V receiver was a breeze. It doesn't try to oversimplify things and present you with an obtuse amount of buttons. It just does what it needs to. The apps have been bulletproof so far, to my surprise. They don't integrate as well as the Tizen apps on the Samsung, but unlike Samsung's Tizen apps they actually work - every time. The viewing angle is phenomenal, and virtually covers the full visible face of the television. If you can see the front, you can see the screen basically. For the bad side of things, the local dimming is awful and way more detrimental than helpful. It's very unintelligent and essentially lights up huge blobs of the screen eliminating the point. This TV will ask you to opt-in to a bunch of tracking and advertising metrics upon first set up - opt out of all of it. To their credit, they let you opt out, but they are straight up sleazy with the amount of shameless prying they're trying (and likely succeeding) at. No features are lost by opting out (voice search is tied to one limited metric), but it is an active measure you must take to avoid something that absolutely should not be built into your thousand dollar television. Cut it out LG.The black levels aren't great - it's not an OLED so there's only so much to do there. Their UI isn't the best, either, but it's a lesser of 3 evils between Samsung/Sony/LG. The main shortcoming is that it's trying to cater to the gyroscopic mouse pointer built into the remote, which necessitates huge distinct buttons on this gigantic pop-up blade menu that has way too much it's trying to sell you up front at the expense of input switching and other handy stuff. The good:- Colors- Viewing Angle- Remote- Smart features- Refresh rate up to par- 4k and HDR supportThe less good:- Opt-out advertising and usage metric tracking- Poor Local Dimming- UI cluttered and busy, with a learning curveOverall my experience with this TV has been light years above and beyond my time with the Samsung of comparable specs and I'm happy even having spent a bit more.

When your TV is smarter than you are...
I love this TV. Colors are bright and accurate; the picture is crisp. It is not a 3-D set (we have no interest in watching TV with huge glasses on), but the quality of the "Ultra HD" is very close to a 3-D look. The TV itself is attractive; the thin silver edge (plastic, though it looks like metal) provides a subtle framing effect. Set-up was easy, and we had it connected to our home WiFi network in minutes. Then came the fun part... There are literally hundreds of variations in picture quality, brightness, and color. Bright room? Dark room? Cinema effect? Sports? "Soap opera" effect? Vivid? Muted? Eye comfort? You will have fun playing with these settings, and with any luck will find a setting or two that all viewers will agree on. Be prepared for a few differences of opinion along the way, and a few experiences of "wait, what did I just do there?"The "how to" guide is on-screen. The paper manual that comes with it is just a few pages explaining how to set it up with appropriate connections and inputs, but does not explain very much about all the settings you can do. Look online for some recommended settings, but in the end, it's very much a matter of personal preference and your specific environment. Trial and error at first. The app we use most is our MLB subscription. At first it was very annoying, because the picture would drop out after just a few minutes of watching the game. Then we had to go into the app again, click on the desired game, and start it again - missing a couple minutes of action each time. Finally we realized that if we watched the game just a minute or two behind real time (click on the blue line on the bottom of the screen and put the marker just a smidge to the left), it worked fine. The problem apparently is that our router is not fast enough: our layman's guess is that the feed is transmitted to the TV's memory and a slow router means the TV does not get the signal in time to keep up, so it drops out. If you intend to stream a lot of content, you will need an up-to-date router (maybe $200 or so).We use the "Magic Remote" and like it, but sometimes our Dish remote is quicker for specific tasks. Many "learning experiences" figuring things out between them.In sum, I highly recommend this TV for general viewing, sports, web browsing, displays of photos, movies, and ease of built-in apps, after a few hiccups. Be prepared for a learning curve to get the most out of it, and then you'll enjoy it.

DON'T BUY LG TV'S
This piece of junk stopped working almost exactly 2 years after I bought it. Went to turn it on today and is not working anymore. The power light blinks 3 times then nothing happens. This is truly disappointing as I WAS a hige LG fan, I have two LG computer monitors, and an LG v30 cell phone. LG wants me to pay a huge fee to get it looked at with a really long wait time for a fix, they are aware of problems like this but haven't done anything to fix it. I am so disappointed with LG and am likely never buying one of their products ever again, $800 down the drain! What ever happened to TVs that lasted decades!? This is one of the worst customer experiences I've ever had. Shame on you LG

Very good Ultra 4K TV, however the lack of instructions and strange remote stops it from becoming the 5-Star TV we hoped for.
Great ultra 4K television. There are two issues that I have had with this product one having to do with its remote performance and the other with documentation.THE REMOTE: When using the remote which is required in order to use any of the options we purchased this product for, we found it extremely difficult. The remote is a "pointer" that puts a red mark on the screen. It is very hard to control from any distance...and if you have cats in your house, they will attack the screen. (We purchased a keyboard to mitigate this making the red mark appear a bit less frequently.)THE INSTRUCTIONS: There are none. We found instructions online. Unfortunately, the instructions do not indicate how the additional keyboard gets to pay in this system.

Great TV, fully expect to last for years
Got a great deal @ $797 a couple weeks ago and after tweaking the stock settings for both display and sound this TV is fantastic. HD cable content shows brilliantly. The other day National Geographic was showing apes in the wild bumping uglies and it was hilarious. Maybe that's irrelevant to your personal TV selection but we're big on nature shows here and the colors, sound and picture are awesome.

Nice casing and pic quality
Slim, good pic, wand remoteI got this on a deal and love it mainly for the slim casing but as you can see the picture specs are great for a somewhat older model. While I'm here, I had yet an older LG model and had to claim warranty on it, which was a 6 week ordeal with LG warranty department. I had to buy this in the interim.

Poor quality early failure
This TV started failing shortly after purchase the screen is distorted and would settle after a few minutes now remains distorted continually. Would not purchase an LG product again our other TV’s are all Samsung and are much older and have not given us a moment grief

Beautiful picture great smart tv
The picture on this tv is beautiful. The colors are rich and true but for me, the 120hz is what makes this stand out. It makes the video look more fluid and lifelike. The smart functions work smoothly and let me access my favorite streaming services without having to use a separate device.
