Handbook of Offshore Oil and Gas Operations

The butchery of the English language in this book is shocking. I opened to the section on Pollution. In the first page found "shallow water and deep water and shallow water worldwide". Repetition."must be sufficiently reliable enough". Redundant. "transportation of the crude oil top and onshore depot". Typo. "offshore drillship or platform". Technically confusing to someone new to the industry as drillships are one of many types of mobile offshore rigs as opposed to fixed platforms. THESE WITHIN LESS THAN 2 PAGES! The author is apparently at the University of Wyoming. I am sure there are Freshman English students who could proofread at a reasonable cost, and PE students for technical cleaning up. Sadly the grammar and other language errors are so egregious they seriously detract from the technical content.

The proof reading in this book is terrible. For the price, I expected much better quality control.Example of errors that appear throughout this book:Page 168, second paragraph. Whole sentences are just repeated on the same page, word for word. Incredible this book was released. Also, section is titled '6.2.4 Arctic Environments' but a few sentences describe gulf of Mexico which had no relevance to the section. Why ? To beef up the page numbers?Page 97, last paragraph on the page. Quoted Text: "Ursa platform (Shell Oil Company), anticipated to begin production in 1999." - When exactly is this book supposed to have been written ?Page 91, Section 3.3.5 SPAR Platform, second paragraph is a bit of a mess: " The first Spar platform in the Gulf of Mexico was installed in September 199- the cylinder measured..." This data has been repeated from the previous paragraph so I assume the date is 1996?I could go on. I could go on. I could go on. (It's contagious)A pity though, this book had the potential to be a cracking addition to any offshore oil and gas engineer library. The information is extensive and the wording (in the good sections) easy to digest. Instead, it just feels like a cut and paste job and a rushed publish.Paying £70+ for this book has resorted to myself personally writing to Gulf Professional Publishing requesting an explanation for the poor quality control.
