Q: Can someone recommend a simpler Talisman-like game?

The original is simpler but hard to buy the board game. However it is available as a download app. Check amazon an eBay for the app. Or original board game.

Q: Can the characters from this be used in regular talisman or vice versa?

Kind of with a little work because they use talent/power in place of magic/spells and some minor things etc. the mechanic is basically the same.

Q: Is this game fun to play solo, controlling multiple characters?

For solo play? Not so much, but it can be done if you like. Playing with a game group is best. However, unless you love IP, I would steer clear from this iteration of Talisman, its faulty in its core.
