"Loose, jazz inspired, down home, soulful band from the Netherlands ... great recordings, lyrics, instrumentation, and overall feel. Like going to a party in someone's living room. Welcome home." - Joey Burns (Calexico), DUSTED North East Indie is extremely proud to present the first ever North American release of the Dutch group De Kift. The self-titled De Kift a combination of two great records: Vlaskoorts (1998) and Koper (2001). A greatest hits, but not quite. In 1988 De Kift emerged from the punk waves of the late seventies/early eighties (think Wire, Crass, Minutemen). With their heavily involved music and intelligent articulation, these art-folk-punkers arrived on the forefront of Holland's fringe-political, musical, and theatrical movements. De Kift have influenced a whole generation of Dutch musicians with their combination of punk angst, world literature, and their village's Crescendo Music Ensemble, of which Jan, the father and oldest member of De Kift, has been a member for over fifty-three years. Today, De Kift remains fully active, with two generations onstage. They continue to tour throughout Europe, their creativity is relentless, and they are yet to be discovered in the sense of their importance to contemporary musical, lyrical, political, and theatrical traditions. They are unparalleled both in their own country and internationally.

A left-field masterpiece
I wasn't expecting this album to be nearly as good as it was. It's one of the top five releases of 2006. The brass and organ flourishes interspersed with your standard guitar, bass, and drums are great. The vocalists cover a wide range of styles, all very effectively. I've never heard people sing in Dutch but it's very fitting to this music. Every track is a pure joy to listen to. "B3" in particular is just bizarre but utterly wonderful. The closest I can come to describing it is a drinking song featured in a Tim Burton movie. Listen and buy!
