The pendant on this necklace is a Jurassic Ammonite Fossil. It is natural and unpolished. I drilled a hole in it and made a knotted bale from textured Silver. I couldn't decide if I wanted this fossil to hang on a chain or from a beaded strand, so I mixed it up and did both which I think makes this piece really unique. For the chain, I fused fine silver and formed it into elongated, chunky links which I hammered on my old anvil with an old hammer. This gives the silver a texture that I love. The strand of beads consists of tiny antique French Brass beads with lots of Baltic Amber nuggets, some Keishi Pearls, Abalone Shells, and some Ancient Ostrich Egg Shell beads which are so calcified, some have fused together. There are also some Bodhi seed beads and I covered the crimp beads with small Antique Afghan Silver beads with nice patina. I made a handmade clasp from Sterling Silver to connect the two strands at the back of your neck, but this necklace will easily slip over your head. It is very long at 34 1/2" plus the pendant hangs 2 1/4" long.
