Premium price for okay jars
Comes well packaged in bubble wrap, in 2 plain cardboard boxes which are taped together. Inside you get 8 glass jars. The jars are 13cm in height and 6cm in diameter with a 16oz holding capacity. They all have a metal screw top lid. Easy to take off and screw back on. The glass is quite thick and doesn't feel like they are going to break easily. It has quite a wide neck opening, easy to fill and dispense from. The listing says they are dishwasher safe, but we just wash them in the sink with warm soapy water. You can't get right inside with your hand, so best to use a brush. The jars are molded with ml measurements on one side and ozs and cups on the other. Some seem a little more easy to read than others, like the numbers are more raised and then near the beginning of the neck where it tapers in, parts are barely visible, almost flush to the glass side. It's the same on another side with the 'b' in 'ball' is more raised on some glasses and some is barely raised at all. There is 2 lines running down each one and some have a bit on the bottom where the circle is completely off centre. They are a nice set of glass jars, but not completely uniform in design quality. Functional and versatile, they could have many uses to them. To me, with a few flaws they don't quite go with their premium price.

Practical, and decorative storage jars
These aren’t quite as I was expecting them to be from the product description. Which isn’t bad, just different. The jars came in two boxes bundled together with tape, with each box holding 4 jars individually packed in bubble wrap packets. The jars all arrived safely. From the description, I had thought these were the kind of jars with collars and replaceable suction centres, instead they have simple screw cap lids. I also hadn’t appreciated from the product photos that these are in fact slightly squared-off jars, rather than ones with totally rounded sides. I’m perfectly happy with this especially since practical use is made of the sides . The product photos show the brand logo Ball on the jars, but don’t show that one side has a measuring scale in ml (in units of 100 up to 300), and another a combination of measuring cups and fluid ounces. On the backs of the jars are decorative moulded cartouches featuring a combination of fruit types.Good, practical glass jars. The one thing I must try to remember somehow is that these are not microwave safe, so I can’t use the microwave to sterilise them.

Great set of 8 mason jars!
I was so impressed with the way these mason jars were packaged in a box inside each jar was rapped in bubble rap. In this set are 8 screw top mason jars, each jar has writing on the glass and the glass looks to be a good quality glass too. Each jar has the capacity to hold 16oz inside and measures at 13 cm high and 6cm in width. I like to make batches of cooking sources and these are the perfect size for two portions in each. I also kept two aside to do some crafty things with, I used one to put fairy lights and put pine cones to put in my sitting room; which was really affective and the other I made a Christmas style snow globe to add to my decorations. This was a good test on the air tightness of the lid because no water escaped. All the things I did with these mason jars was really affective, and you could even drill a hole in the lid of the jar and stick a straw through the hole and you have a drinking jar! There are so many uses for these and I have to say how impressed I 'am with these mason jars for the quality of them and that they are so versatile for uses. I'm unable to comment on the price at this time as there isn't one available.

Nice looking and large, but not exactly canning jars and a bit expensive
These came just on time for me to collect wild fennel from my garden. They are large jars with sealing lids and markings in Oz and milliliters. The markings go up to 300ml, but the actual capacity is over 400ml.They are certainly mason jars, but not necessarily canning jars. As far as I know canning jars have lids which will create void in in the jar upon boiling, creating a vacuum seal for long term storage. I think these ones are simply airtight, whatever air is in the jar upon closing it will stay there. They are nice looking and good for storing things in the kitchen, jams to keep in the fridge and fermenting things I think. The large opening allows for pouring things in easily.Accordingly to the producer, they cannot be used in the microwave. Not sure if this is because of the metallic lid or rather something about the glass. This rules out using them to freeze bolognese sauce , because I would normally microwave the jar (not the lid) to defrost the sauce. At £29 for 8, they are perhaps a bit overpriced though.

Great for the home cook and preserver - excellent value
I was born and bred in Yorkshire and as such try not to waste any food ,and this is especially true during autumn when the fruit trees and berry bushes are producing more fruit that I can eat fresh, and when the last of the tomatoes need processing. It is at this point that I search around for any jam jars I can find and get frustrated when some of them have square sides and aren't easily sterilised. This pack of eight good quality mason jars at £29 works out at just 3.62 per jar. The jars themselves are made of thick glass, with useful measures etched into the sides and can hold up to 16 ounces. The lids do not use separate seals and have their own seal included in the lid. Quite surprised that they are not recommended for use in a steriliser or microwave as preserving fruit and vegetables often calls for this step and for this reason I have marked them down one star. (Although as they are dishwasher safe they should be able to be 'sterilised' by the hottest cycle).I will be using them for storing grape jelly (from our grapes), raspberry jam, fruit compote, tomato chutney and homemade lemon cheese. I would happily recommend them for the thrifty home cook and preserver.
