Very Impressed
After buying a new Sony tv i decided that that the Sony dvd player that we have had for several years needed upgrading, having looked at many it became clear that a Blu Ray player could be had for the same price as a dvd player, so not wanting 4K ability and having the new Sony tv i bought this little box and i am extremely happy that i picked it, it is very small and discreet but it packs a lot in, apart from the obvious disc player it also has a whole host of app's that make it very smartFirst trying it out with a dvd of Lord Of The Rings i was very impressed by the quality and sharpness of the picture, audio playing through my Orbitsound T12 was even more impressive with the rumbles and explosions of the battle scenes right there in the room but with the rest of the soundstage clearly audible as wellthe first Blu Ray played was the BFG, as would be expected the picture quality is superb on the 1080p tv and again the sound simply blows you away, the little box is very quick to respond to the remote, something that i had not appreciated with the previous dvd player as i now realise how slow that had been, the remote itself is also quite small but it is perfectly sized and shaped to make it easy to usethere are many app's on this player including Amazon video and Netflix, which has it's own dedicated quick launch button and the other app's can be sorted into favourites etci am extremely happy with this Blu Ray player and considering it cost no more than many dvd players i think it is an absolute bargain and i recommend it for any one who like me has no desire to get into 4K just yet but would like to get the most out their dvd and Blu ray discs.

Budget box
This Blu-ray player is a bit of a disappointment, especially being from such a reputable brand like Sony.I say that because the way this player functions feels like some cheap half-brand device you'd find in Lidl for £25.I understand that this is Sony's budget player, being the cheapest (or second cheapest) that they offer, but somehow I did expect a little more.It takes a while to boot up, which is fair enough, but oh my lord does it lag like crazy on the inputs. Especially when using it to stream from its "smart player" operating system. I can push the buttons on the remote about 20 times before it actually registers and then it takes about 10 seconds to catch up. By the time the menu appears, you've already pushed the button again and the menu disappears. Very annoying if you need to pause a movie or a series in order to use the toilet or make a drink.Other than this input lag, the box does function as it should with good quality image output.Hook it up to a Vonets VAR-11N and you can connect the player to your home Wi-Fi instead of needing a LAN connection. You can easily power the brilliant little device from the front USB port of the player too.So, overall, if you're looking for a budget Blu-ray player with Smart TV capabilities, then I would recommend this player, but if you want something with a bit more oomph that won't annoy you, go for one of the pricier Sony players, especially one with a built-in CPU.

NOT WIRELESS!
No complaints about the picture or sound quality, or regarding how easy it is to set-up. However I was very disappointed to find the player isn't wireless until I had attempted several times to set it up.Having read the product description on Amazon, as far as I can tell nowhere does it say the player does not have wireless capability. I think it is slightly misleading, given it provides detailed information about how you can connect easily to Netflix and other apps as well as streaming and playing games disc free using the cloud. Pretty disappointing as personally I wouldn't have bought the player had I known, as it won't be used where it is easy to establish a wired connection.A short line clearly saying it is not wireless in the product description should be included. There isn't even anything on the box or manual to say it requires a wired connection. In fact the manual even gives instructions about how to set up wireless! It's obviously a standard manual for all Sony products which is included, I had to google the issue to then find out it is not wireless.I'm sure it will say somewhere in small print it requires a wired connection, but in 2018 you assume that when the product description boasts about how easy it is to use the player with functions requiring an internet connection, it would be wireless. As I've said, not making this information clear smacks of an attempt by Sony and the seller to mislead the buyer into thinking its wireless - a network cable isn't even included in the "Add An Accesory" section, only batteries for the remote!Overall the player is good but the issue with wireless has left a bad taste in my mouth.
