SALOMONOutline GTX Hiking Waterproof Shoes For Men, Black

I'm an experienced long distance hiker and accustomed to boring people with effusive praise for Salomon footwear which is generally, in my opinion, the best on the market for lightweight trekking and trail running footwear. I bought this shoe to replace a pair of Saloman Evasion 2 Aero which I've had for about 4 years and done a lot of miles in. They were terrific. I have to say I'm a little disappointed by these Outline GTX. I know the whole point is they are light but after a couple of 20k walks along the South Downs my conclusion is they are too lightweight and just feel cheaper and less supportive than previous makes of similar Saloman shoes I've owned. The shoe has no rigidity. They certainly aren't waterproof either. Good for a trail run and summer strolls and they're comfy, but I wouldn't want to do a 100k walk in them, which I did in comfort with the Evasion 2 Aero's. If you're looking for a 'good all rounder' walking trainer I'd go for another model.

I've been a Salomon user for years and done many mountain challenge walks, so I know the brand and have always been a fan.I bought these lightweight shoes for short walks and also use on the coast paths. In my first walk, a 4-mile loop around flat parkland, I saw the rubberised side had become unstuck from the body of the left shoe. Enough said, they've been returned. Shame because they are comfortable, light and true to size.

My last pair were a pair of berghaus GTX, these are heavier, not quite as comfortable, but look like they’ll last a lot lot longer. I like the grip on the soles especially, the sizing is wrong though, I’m normally a 10 1/2 to 11, The size 11 I tried were way too tight, I’ve bought a size 11 1/2 And they’re only just okay.

Fit very well as often large size 9 are wide. Used every day all weather.
