This is a rock solid G-Shock: attractive square shaped design, has all the functions most people need, great backlight, great water resistance, great durability, very light weight and comfortable on the wrist. For the money, you definitely can't beat this G-Shock. In fact I prefer its size, shape, weight, and design to many more expensive G-Shock models.I am so happy with this model that I returned a $300 gold G Steel G-Shock (https://www.amazon.com/Casio-G-Shock-G-Steel-Watch/dp/B07BXCBFCD) and ordered a limited edition Smokey Sea version of the DW5600 instead. The G Steel is a good looking watch, but it's heavy, clunky, and the digital display is hard to read in dimmer lighting. The DW5600 is lightweight, easy to read in any lighting, and I don't feel like I'm going to hit it on things. It is simple and perfect.

I've been an avid watch collector my entire life, but it wasn't until the past year or so that I've been seriously bitten by the "watch collector" bug. I realized that I didn't have a digital in my collection, and it just so happened that I had also been looking for a beater watch, something to just wear around casually. I always knew the G-Shocks had a big following, so I decided to hop on the bandwagon and I settled on the DW-5600. I chose this watch because, to me, it looks the most "classic" of the G-Shock line. I didn't really care about Solar or Atomic capabilities, which also helped out on the price.On Amazon's end, they did an adequate job. The watch arrived when it was supposed to, but the box was a little beat-up when I got it. The packaging wasn't all that great, either, because inside the box only one single "air-bag" protected the item.I was a little disappointed in the packaging of the watch itself. It didn't come in one of those cool gray tins that you see online, or even one of the bigger square black and red G-Shock boxes. Instead, the watch was packaged in a small rectangular box containing a plastic stand with the watch on it and the module book folded in half and stuffed underneath. Not a big deal, but a little neater package would be nice.Now, onto the watch itself. When I opened the box, I was surprised at just how nice it looks. Really, the watch looks much better in person that it does in any of the photographs I've seen. Like I mentioned above, the watch has a very classic digital look, with a very simple, rugged, "no-frills" design. The band is resin, and at first glance doesn't really look that comfortable. However, once you put it on, it feels nice and smooth on your skin. The watch is also incredibly light (60g, according to Casio's website), so much so that I barely even notice it's there. The build quality feels very solid, and I have the feeling that the watch could withstand a pretty tough beating. The case has a Casio branded metal plate on the backside and a metal buckle on the band. The readout has a positive display and isn't clogged up with useless information, so it's very easy to read. You've got the day and date on top, and time on the bottom. The backlight is nice and bright, although I wish it would stay illuminated for longer than two seconds. The four buttons are located on each corner of the case and I had no problem pressing any of them except for the "adjust" button, which is recessed so you don't accidentally bump it and reset the watch. This is my biggest complaint about the watch, seeing how sometimes I have to take the watch off just press the adjust button. But, luckily you don't have to use it that often, so it's not a deal-breaker.As for the features of the watch, they're all pretty standard. There's no barometric pressure gauge, tide readouts, or moon-phase indicators, just the standard features. Pressing the lower left button lets you scroll through the watches four modes: Time, alarm, countdown, and stop-watch. These modes are self-explanatory, and the time is viewable in each mode. The watch gives a resounding "beep" when changing modes, and a slightly higher-pitched chirp when returning to time mode. The volume on the alarm is adequate. I consider myself to be a heavy sleeper, and the alarm woke me up just fine.Overall, the Casio G-Shock DW-5600E is a solid watch. It's classic design, sturdy construction, and refreshingly basic features make it a must-have digital in any collection, especially G-Shock enthusiasts. And, at just over $40, it's an incredible value.4.5/5 stars

I bought two of these watches back in 2009. One for myself and one to give as a gift. Almost three years later these watches are both in great condition.I'm very hard on my watches, and almost every watch I have owned in the past has been broken through normal daily use within a year. This is usually due to me accidentally smashing the screen into something, or from an impact due to it being dropped. This watch has survived three years, and it still looks like new.Pros:Incredibly durable - This thing has been dropped, scraped, slammed, and thrown, but it's survived everything that I've thrown at it.Perfect size - Some of the watches on the market today look like you are wearing a wall clock on your wrist. This watch is perfect. It's big enough to read, but small enough that it doesn't look odd.Nice feature set - This watch has a nice basic set of features. It doesn't have any of the more advanced features like atomic time keeping, solar, etc. However, this means that the price is low, and the battery life is much longer. So far I haven't had to replace the battery after three years.The watch face is recessed into the watch - This for me is a huge plus. I've always had an issue with other watches getting paint on the crystal due to me accidentally scrapping them against painted walls. With this watch the screen is recessed into the body of the watch so any paint is transferred to the outer casing. This is easy to clean off, and keeps the watch screen looking great.Cons:I can't find a perfect hole in the watch band for my wrist. I fall somewhere between two holes on the wrist band. One of the holes is too loose, and the other is too tight. However, this is most likely a personal issue, and I do prefer my watch to fit a bit looser then most.Overall I am very happy with this watch. I recommend that anyone looking for a durable digital watch to give this one a look. In the future I want to try some of the other G-Shock watches available, but for now this one is perfect for my needs.

I've wanted to pick up one of these for a few years, partly to have an inexpensive 'beater' watch for practical reasons and, if I'm honest, mostly as an 80's, kid wanting scratch that retro itch. I'm really happy with it, the quality and finish are much better than the images show, or that I remember from the old days. It's very light and the stock resin strap is very comfortable. I'd assume it would look super chunky but it actually wears very well on my pretty skinny wrist. Would recommend. On a minor point; I received a model with 'Illuminator' text rather than 'Fox Fire' (as in the product images) with the latter being a Japanese Domestic Market version (I believe), so if you specifically want the JDM version just be aware that you may not get that.
