Squeaks both ways. Variations on this ball is the only toy exciting enough for my old dogs these days. The same brand drove them bonkers as puppies, highly recommend.

As you can see there are two types of balls in this page. The 3 pack or the single ball. I thought I was ordering the 3 pack but got just one which is my dogs favorite. I then ordered again and got the 3 pack. These are much smaller but awesome too. My dog loves them both. Just be careful which you choose when ordering

The squeaker broke within 30 minutes
So muc( for our Christmas gift- the squeaker broke within 30 minutes. The surface of the ball is a favorite for our dog. But the squeaker action is unreliable, as it was with this purchase.
