David Lee Roth went back to his Warner Bros. recordings and personally selected and sequenced the songs and videos for this special Hits collection. The CD not only includes the entire Crazy From The Heat e.p. but includes classics like Yankee Rose, Just Like Paradise, Goin' Crazy! and I'm Easy. The DVD also brings you the entire DAVE TV Warner Home Video release for the very first time on DVD format as well as more rare videos from his Warner and Reprise albums. This newly mastered CD/DVD package features new artwork, photos and song lyrics!

I bought this for the DaveTV videos, but looks like it must've been transfered from VHS, to burlap, to DVD by Pablo Picasso! >:(
Having all of the Roth and Van Halen CD's you could need, I only got this because I was sick of waiting for lazy-me to get off my ass to go buy an antique machine to watch my VHS of "David Lee Roth" (what this DVD refers to as DaveTV). I bought my VHS version of "Dave TV" on Amazon for $12 in 2004 (http://www.amazon.com/David-Lee-Roth-Videos-VHS/dp/6302374340) and had watched and enjoyed it a lot, but I haven't had a VHS player for almost a decade and was missing good ol' Diamond Dave.Being so thrilled to see that this came out recently on DVD (WHILE FOOLISHLY THINKING THAT THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS ABOUT THE VIDEO QUALITY WERE AN EXAGGERATION), I went moronically forth and purchased it.I'VE SEEN RUSSIAN DASH CAM VIDEOS THAT LOOKED LIKE A THEATER SCREENING OF ONE OF THE LORD OF THE RINGS FILMS COMPARED TO THIS HORRIBLE TRANSFER.If you're a young'un under 35 years old (don't check my math) and want to LISTEN to his post-Van Halen, 1985-1986 hits (and only want to buy 1 CD), then this is fine. But please, watch the videos, ignore the video quality and laugh. Because it's all new to you, anyway. And it IS really funny stuff! For us ol'uns who needed the DLR video on an updated medium, Warner Bros. really botched it.Sorry for the negative points,...but I had to Warn-a-Brother.

unacceptable video quality
video is 4:3 aspect ratio. The video quality may be better than any quality you can find on the internet, but not by much. The videos are still awesome as ever with the stereotypical characters etc, the audio quality is a tad better as far as the videos (less grainy), but again not by much.Pros: Crazy from the Heat video is also sung in Spanish, unseen interviews (behind the scenes for the videos that tie together for Dave TV). The video A Little Ain't Enough, (with LA Raiders Cheerleaders?) which was also the highest quality video IMO.Cons: unacceptable video quality. For those who care, Just Like Paradise is only featured in audio form, and doesn't appear in video form.

Deluxe Edition it is not...but it is good.
I questioned the song selection and running order when I first looked at the track listing. But after listening to this greatest hits compilation, I must say, the running order is brilliant Seems to be really well thought out and blends together seamlessly.. With a relatively short total time, it could have easily had some more songs. The sound on this compilation is really quite good. Little to no loudness problems, like with the other Friday Music releases. I little flat and lifeless but no brick walling. The DVD is not good. To see Dave TV on DVD is awesome and I was so happy to watch it again after all these years. But the quality is terrible. Is this really the best they could do? I could have transferred my VHS copy to DVD and would have gotten the same effect. The other videos are cool, especially the ones that are released here for the first time. The missing videos are a real disappointment!!!The packaging and artwork are really lame. The pictures are all current, from The Roth Show podcast. If you are doing a career retrospective, don't you want to represent the entire career? Cheap paper, cheap ink and just not well done at all. This mirrors Friday Musics effort with their re-releases of the other Roth albums.All-in-all, it is a great compilation with a really excellent running order but is missing some key tracks. The video quality is very poor and is also missing some key moments. But, having Dave TV on DVD is still pretty cool. The artwork is quite poor and very disappointing.I would recommend this title for the casual fan looking for a decent compilation of David Lee Roth although I would recommend they purchase "The Best" instead. For the serious fan, it is a take it or leave it, thrown together money grab. For the completest, like me, it is a necessity.

A nice collection of audio and video
Although "Greatest Hits: The Deluxe Edition" is lacking some of Roth's key solo material, it still packs a big enough punch to be an excellent release. In addition to the audio, the set comes complete with a second DVD disc that includes some of Roth's best known music videos, including the "A Little Ain't Enough" video that was banned from MTV. If you're looking to step into David Lee Roth's solo output, this is more than a fine place to start.

Definitely a little, and definitely ain't enough
The music we know and love. I think he really, REALLY needs a 2-CD compilation someday with demos (primarily the Skyscraper ones that Sheehan raved about) and such. But here's a bullet list of what it would take to make this Single disc compilation a 5-star release:1. Volume level. The volume on this release is noticeably louder than the original 80's discs, and noticeably softer than 1997's THE BEST. So that means you now have 3 different volumes to adjust if you make a playlist. Regardless of what you think of the loudness wars, it would be nice for this to have had the same volume as THE BEST, at least for consistency's sake.2. "Damn Good". Most compilations get critiqued on song selection, but I think most DLR fans would agree that Damn Good should have been included on this. It was a big hit for him in '88/'89 and it wasn't on THE BEST.3. Running time. There is only 58 minutes on this CD. I don't have a problem with him using 4 songs from YOUR FILTHY LITTLE MOUTH, but then at least fill up the disc with more songs from EAT EM AND SMILE and SKYSCRAPER.4. The videos. As other have stated, this compilation is missing Just Like Paradise and Stand Up. In addition, the videos that were included were clearly not restored in any way. The images look like they came from the best possible VHS copy they could find. I don't mind them being in 4:3 since that is probably what they were shot in. I certainly wouldn't want them to crop them just to widen to 16:9.

Good album
If you have Dave's The Best album you could probably give this one a miss. The only thing it has that The Best doesn't is the dvd which as noted in other reviews is VHS quality - better than nothing I guess, which is why I bought this album.

Poor Video Quality On DVD + Key Audio Tracks MIssing From CD
I am a HUGE David Lee Roth fan. As a 12 year old, I was fortunate enough to be escorted into the Toronto show of his Eat Em' & Smile Tour at Maple Leaf Gardens by a familiy friend working pay duty as a Toronto police officer. So I was ecstatic when I saw this deluxe CD/DVD edition of this collection. The most exciting part was the DVD which brings together the entire Dave TV, previoulsy released but only available on VHS. It also included rare videos from his time with Warner Brothers and Reprise. Being so excited, I opened and watched the videos as soon as I got home from work. I thought some of the other reviewers had extremely high expectations, re: video quality, so glossed over their assertions. They were definitely not wrong. Video quality is poor. With the technology we have today, I really don't understand why the quality is so poor. Regarding the CD, it is missing a couple of tracks, including, Damn Good. Small thing since I own the track already. However, I would have expected greater attention to detail. Overall, a real disapointment. I do not recommend purchasing this CD/DVD.
