A Beautiful Box for Cremains....
My mother passed away on August 8th and it has been an emotional roller coaster for me ever since then. Being the only child and only remaining survivor of this family branch (father passed away in 2006 and no other siblings) it has been a hard row to hoe so to speak handling everything that she left behind. My mother and I had a very strained relationship and the last time I had any contact with her was two years ago. Prior to that it was at least 3-4 years. Despite the strain, distance and detachment she was still my mother and I will never have another one. She left more of a mess behind than anything else and so everything that I've done has been out of my own pocket. After picking up her ashes from Cremation Services, I looked at what they had to offer for urns. Most everything that they had was in the $200+ range for something that would fit my mother's ashes. Granted, cremation is a lot cheaper than traditional funerals, it is still expensive no matter which way you turn.I came home and began my search for an urn or something appropriate to put my mother's ashes in. I couldn't just leave her in the plastic bag in the "basic" plastic box in the cardboard box on the kitchen table forever. I searched various other websites for cremation urns and boxes before coming to Amazon. The other sites that I looked at were still expensive despite not going through a funeral home or service to get what I wanted. As I started searching through Amazon's selection, because you know - they have everything, I came across this wooden box and fell in love with it. When my father passed away in 2006, a friend of his purchased the urn that his ashes are kept in. That one is solid Italian granite. I would have liked to have done something similar with my mother's but, again, it was out of my price range. My mother led a simple but complicated life. She kept to herself and didn't have very many friends. The ones she had, like me for example, she pushed away through her own paranoia and led a lonely life. This box reminded me a little bit of her, at least in the positive light. Simple yet beautiful.I had to google an online "calculator" for human cremains. Seeing as how it had been two years since I had last physically seen my mother, I had no idea how much she weighed. If I had to guess, my mother weighed probably around 150 lbs. I also gauged this based on the sizes of clothing she had in her house. I deduced that I would need at least 150 cubic inches to hold my mother's ashes. (Google Cremation Urn Size Calculator).I purchased this urn because based on its description, it had enough space to accommodate up to 250 cubic inches of ashes. Since I wasn't sure of my mother's weight, I wanted to err on the side of caution and get something that would allow for any more cubic inches that I didn't calculate (or know about). With the purchase of this box, it included a personalized plate. The instructions were to send the seller a message after purchase with the text that you wish to have engraved on the plate. This was a bit confusing at first because the options didn't show up how they said they would on Amazon through your orders. To contact the seller, I clicked on their name "Funeralurns" on the item page beside "ships from and sold by" under the price and then clicked on the "Ask a question" button in the top right hand corner. Select "I need assistance with: An order I placed" and then select the subject as "product customization." In the text box enter what you would like to have engraved and hit send. They will send you a message back confirming receipt of your message and what will be engraved.Within two days, I received the urn via UPS. The urn was packaged neatly inside of a cardboard box, padded with Styrofoam. I carefully pulled the urn out of the box and removed the tissue paper wrapping from around the urn. I inspected the urn carefully and made sure nothing was wrong with it. The urn was beautiful. Not a defect or flaw. (There was however a sticker on the bottom of the box that said "Made in India" which I removed after completion.)On the bottom, the lid secures down with six small screws. I really liked this feature as compared to the slide lid or the small hole (like my Dad's urn was - that was a pain to get all the ashes inside of such a small hole). I carefully removed the screws from the urn and set it aside. There was a small packet of silica desiccant inside of the box to absorb moisture. I retrieved a can of dusting spray and wiped out the inside of the box as well as the outside to give it a nice shine.Since my mother's ashes were about 100 cubic inches less than the max size for this urn, I didn't want the bag of ashes to slide around willy nilly and possibly damage the bag inside the box. So to bulk up the space inside the box, I took a small hand towel and placed it inside of the box for the ashes to sit on to prevent sliding and hitting the sides of the box. I also placed the envelope with the certificate of cremation inside of the box as well, just in case.Placing the lid back on the box and replacing the screws in their proper holes was easy. All it took was a small Phillips head screw driver and a few moments of my time. Once the screws were in place and the lid secured, I flipped the box back over and admired the woodwork. The engraved plate was a nice touch. All of the wording was just as I had sent in to them to engrave. I looked up "epitaphs for mothers" online to give me an idea of wording to place on the engraved plate. With the bad memories over shadowing most of the good ones, I feel that I selected one that was appropriate and shows her memory in a good light. The engraved plate has two strips of double-sided tape on the back of it. I haven't attached the engraved plate to the top of the box yet, but will soon. When I do, I will probably add a strip of glue to the plate to secure it to the box better and make it last longer.Overall, I would recommend this cremation urn/box to anyone who is looking for a beautiful place to put their loved one's ashes. It's light weight (even with my mother's ashes) and isn't too "bright" or "in your face" like some urns are. Plus, the price is economical. My advice to others looking for a funeral urn/box, pay attention to the cubic inches. If you know the weight of your loved one pre-death, use that as your guide. I had to guess and ended up with a bit more space than I thought but I'm okay with that.I hope the photos I have attached help others in their decision in purchasing this urn/box.

Beautiful!
My husband was killed in a trucking accident last week. He was one of the best humans. We are very happy with this urn. He had a wicked sense of humor, and always said he wanted his ashes shot out of a cannon. He just turned 51, and I can’t let him go. Plus, where am I getting a cannon? Our two children, and I are very happy that this urn is how I’ll keep him with me.

Very nicely done flower engraving with an attractive finish on this box.
The box is very nicely done! The engraved plate is a very nice complement, though the printing is a tiny bit unevenly placed on the plate. I also would like to have seen a better quality latch on the front being that the box is done so well. However the price compared to many is very reasonable and that possibly would be the concession for the latch, as it does work well and looks ok.

Very Beautiful
I searched for hours on amazon after my daughter passed away for the perfect urn.It arrived in a timely manner. The box was made of a nice wood, very shiny and heavy wood with beautiful craftsmanship. The engraving on the plaque was beautiful too, exactly like I had hoped. The ashes fit perfectly in the urn.The only thing is that the plaque was not already attached to the urn and was wrapped in paper and I almost threw it away and thought they forgot the plaque. My bad. I would recommend this for loved ones ashes
