Ridiculously overpriced and it doesn't work
If you believe in Gordon Gekko's famous words "greed is good", you'll disagree with my review. There is no technology in this product. It's a painter's bucket ($25) + 4 wheels ($7) + a custom plastic basin ($15) + a low-tech plastic spout ($5) = $73. There is no liner bowl to place within the basin...you must purchase this separately outside of Amazon. The buyer must assemble the parts. $73 is Home Depot cost, not distributor cost. The cost to Critter Concepts is likely $30.The "automatic" spout is false advertising. The basis and bucket use simple principles of physics (pressure) to balance the water level. There is no technology here. If someone sold you a frisbee that "automatically" fell to the earth due to gravity, would you pay a premium for this "automation"? No. You'd be a fool to. Such is the story with Critter Concepts "automatic" water bowl. For $195, you receive free gravity and free pressure sold at a premium due the false claim of "automation". If they removed "automatic" from their product description, no one would buy this product. The product works if it's set on a horizontal surface. Otherwise you'll have some spillage on the floor. The reason is because the "automatic" bowl is stupid, unable to compensate for a minor gradient. As others noted, the packaging is primitive, something I'd expect from a pinata. If the bowl were $75, I'd be fine because it's durable. But for $195, I expect much more. Mildly impressed with the product, greatly disappointed in the greedy price. Regrettable purchase.Review Update---------------------After using the water bowl for several days, it consistently leaked. It's unclear at this point if slight slope on my terrace is responsible. It could also be that I didn't properly tighten the lid despite putting my 210 pounds into it. Instructions reveal that one must watch a video learn how to properly tighten lid. It's a threaded painters lid yet the "automatic" bowl is so primitively implemented that one must watch a video to learn how to tighten a lid.The leak is constant and slow. In time, the "automatic" bowl will dispense of all the water prematurely defeating its purpose. Ah...but don't worry mate...you just need to learn to tighten the lid properly as if I have all day to waste on this product. Warning -- mopping and watching a video are necessary actions for the buyer of this impressive "automatic" technology. For half the price of an iPhone, I own a leaky plastic painters bucket. The iPhone does so many thousands of things automatically in seconds while this automatic bowl can't do one. Don't be swayed by all the positive reviews. Don't believe a word. I've been shopping on Amazon for over 10 years. Believe this -- the "Automatic" water bowl by Critter Concepts is easily my worst Amazon purchase. Enough said.FINAL UPDATE---------------------I've used the product for several weeks since my last update. I've discovered two additional limitations. I live on the coast near the Pacific ocean where water level & pressure changes daily due to the changes in the sea level. I've noticed fluctuations in water level of the dispenser regulated the brainless "automatic" bucket. At certain times during the day, the water level is fine. At other times, the water overflows creating a mess and slowly emptying the bucket. I suspect that the reason for this is the daily fluctuations in atmospheric pressure (setting sun, rising sun, changes in sea level). There is no intelligence in this bucket, nothing to regulate this fluctuation. My only solution is to close the spout else I'll be refilling more regularly than is necessary due to overflow. If you're thinking -- no worries for me, I live in the Midwest, thank goodness I don't live on the left coast -- well think again. Thunderstorms & tornados vary atmospheric pressure. Tornado warnings are constants in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, the south. After each storm, you'll be forced to refill your bucket and mop up the mess. Fun!The other issue is related to how Vegas (Sucks) Rocks -- the maker of the dispenser -- manages constant pressure in the bucket. They use a rubbery, stringy band that you place into the lid before screwing the lid onto the bucket. The rubbery band helps retain pressure within the bucket. The problem with these bands is that lose their elasticity upon opening and closing the lid. As they lose their elasticity, they are unable to maintain constant pressure within their life. As a result these bands have a lifespan of about 5-7 openings of the lid. Open an eighth time and it is ineffective at maintaining the pressure and must be replaced. This is why the maker sends of bunch of these stringy bands with the dispenser. Two problems with this approach. First and foremost -- each band offers varying performance to maintain pressure across its brief lifespan. This is a significant design flaw. This isn't a SmartDispenser. It's a DumbDispenser. The only design that I see from Vegas Sucks Rocks is in marketing , not in engineering. And that's the key. The dispenser must work well consistently. It must solve your problem. But it doesn't. Meanwhile the marketing is a lie. The second problem is that you'll need to purchase more bands within a few months. I'm certain the maker intended for this in an effort to create a constant revenue stream. For the buyer, it's more wasted money on a poor product. After using this POS for over a month, I've decided to dispose of the dispenser and replace with a real solution. $200 wasted. Jeff Bezos should be ashamed. Don't make the same mistake I did. Don't believe the reviews that rave about it's "simple design". It simply doesn't work.

Excellent and everything they say it is. Great customer service too!
I bought two of these units and they are awesome. They ensure my lab always has clean water even when I travel or get busy. This allows me to travel without worrying if anyone is checking the dog bowl for water. They are completely durable and good for inside or outside as I use them in both locations. The 3.5 gallon one lasts my Labrador about a week and a half. If you have the room, get the largest one that works for you if you want to have the water last longer or have multiple dogs. The customer service is outstanding. I had a question I submitted through their website and got an answer back in literally five minutes. I recommend this item highly for anyone who wants to ensure clean water on hand for your pet without checking the water multiple times a day.

I love it
I like that this is simple gadget. Yes some reviewers say it is expensive for no reason. I am happy with my purchase. My dog drinks A LOT, and I couldnt find a bowl that held enough for her and that was small enough for a small dog and cat to drink from as well. This holds enough water for everyone, and they can all reach it easily. It lasts for about 2 weeks in my house, and the tray does get dirty by then, but no one seems to mind, so I just clean it when I refill.

So we have had these for about a week now. It seems to work well. In the paperwork it says to watch a video on how to put the lid on. I did but when I went to put the lid on the instructions on the lid did not mention it. Anyways it works.I was a bit surprised when I opened the box. The piece were wrapped in newspaper. I just don’t normally see that with packages that I receive these days. I was a bit upset that all of the pieces were covered in a grease. I don’t know if some of the petroleum jelly leaked out or what. Thank god I have a deep utility sink that I was able to wash it all in with some dawn.Honestly it was the grease on everything that was why I only gave 4 stars. I don’t like opening up something that I spent a lot of money on to immediately wash it.

Get this for your dogs. You deserve it, they deserve it.
I'd REALLY like to give this 5 stars...I probably should give it 5 stars...but the lid is difficult. The lid on occasion has been over tightened and will then be extremely difficult to take off. I know this is a reality of the 5 gallon bucket design, but it is enough to cost a star.Now...if you have dogs. You NEED this watering device. Take care with the lid and you'll be forever happy. The volume of water it holds is great for a multi-dog environment. My rambunctious and somewhat "special" Labrador cannot tip it over. Properly sealed it does not leak (I wish this was true of their tongues). And the wheels make it a dream to move around. I find it easy to fill and clean and other than the lid being difficult this is the best watering system I've come across for my dogs. The only thing better might by a year round stream, but that is not in the budget.

I'm so glad I bought this!
We're a 5 dog household. It is wonderful to only have to fill the dogs' water one a day. Delivery was slightly delayed but shipper notified me if the glitch. Assemby, even for me, was easy. A couple of the dogs are real slobs at the bowl, so I put a big round pizza pan underneath to catch the splashes. Even with back and foot issues, spouse can wheel to bathroom and fill with shower hose.I too wish there was an inert that could be removed for easier cleaning of the bowl. Maybe one could be designed as an optional add-on?

An insert would be nice. Otherwise does what it says and I don't ...
Works well for my 4 spaniels. my only issue is cleaning the drinking bowl from dog slobber and debris. Have to empty it out to clean almost daily. An insert would be nice. Otherwise does what it says and I don't worry about spilling and running out of water. I use it inside. Might be better for outdoor use. I put mine on an absorbent bath rug. All in all a good purchase
