The Sound of Music (Rogers & Hammerstein): Piano Solo Selections

Arrangements not fun to play
I am a big fan of The Sound of Music, and was excited to play through this piano book. I found the arrangements to be a bit odd. There were parts of the pieces I didn't recognize. I missed having lyrics to sing along with. The level of difficulty was constantly switching between early intermediate to late intermediate, with many unnecessary octave stretches thrown in. I found myself enjoying one section, only to have it switch to a much more difficult unrecognizable section. Over all, I found that I just didn't enjoy playing these arrangements of my favorite songs.

"Piano Solos" means "Intermediate Piano Solos"
When I ordered this book, it was with the intention of having something to play that would be both challenging, and fun. However, I was dismayed to find that the level of this book was much too easy for me. Within about 30 minutes, I had played through the entire book. In all fairness, I cannot fault this book for being what it is, which is why I gave it 3 stars instead of 1; as an intermediate/easy solo piano book, it is great (younger students will love the rendition of Edelweiss). However, it just wasn't what I was looking for, and I think that the product description doesn't make clear what level of piano this book is for--"Piano Solos" is pretty vague (Jim Brickman and George Winston's books are "Piano Solos!"). In short, if you have taken piano for 6 years, this book is great; if you have taken piano for 12 years, don't buy this book. :)

Beautiful piano solo arrangements
Really great arrangements for piano!! If your looking for just a sing a long piano areangement you should look somewhere else. This is a piano solo book. The arranger did a really nice job in using different rhythms and dynamics to mimic different voices and instruments. Also this is a medium to advanced book, so not for the first time pianists unless you're willing to work really hard

Long Live The Sound of Music!
The Sound of Music will always live on in our hearts and homes as well as in performances. This book is well suited for it all. A singer, a musician, or just anyone wanting to revisit this wonderful music. The book is "meaty" without being unduly hard so it is enjoyable from the very start. It is not for a beginner piano student. The student must be in the intermediate stage of lessons before using this book. I enjoy pulling this book out and just playing it myself and others like to sing a long with me!

The Sound of Music (Rogers & Hammerstein): Piano Solo Selections
If you enjoyed the movie or stage production and like to play the piano, you will love these piano arrangements of the unforgettable songs of The Sound of Music. I am not a very accomplished pianist, but I am able to play the pieces in this collection well enough so I can participate in making music and loving again the story and song of this classic musical. Most of the songs from the play are in this collection - "The Sound of Music", "Edelweiss", "You are Sixteen", "How Do You Solve a Problem like Maria", and others.

Awesome find!
This is absolutely what I have been looking for! I grew up watching the Sound of Music and have recently begun taking piano lessons. I love that this book is spiral bound--keeps me from having to bend the covers to make the book stay open. Let's get ready for some "Do-Re-Mi"!!!!

Disappointed
I was disappointed to find no lyrics. The description didn't indicate the level of piano or that there were no lyrics. I wish I had read the customer reviews beforehand. It wasn't the piano book I expected.
