Strops work well for maintaining an edge but when the edge is dull using a manual strop takes a long time. This product works well and saves a lot of time. I find it works best if you take the angle guide off and strop both sides by switching the orientation of the knife so the belt is always going away from the edge. (See photos)

Just received my kit and belts look pretty good, but I haven't tried them yet. I had to come back here first because there was no information in the package regarding which compound is what. I went to the manufacturer's website and couldn't find this kit at all. Only in the Amazon description did I finally find information about the different compounds.

Like which side of the belt are we supposed to use.I tried it with smooth side of the belt outward first it seem to slow down .then I inverted the belt and leather dust went all over then I turned the belt back to the smooth side then it ran better.are we suppose put the leather compounds on while running ?I think I will use my compounds, not the included ones.

Compound is trash. Get better compound, make your knives razor sharp. Like you can actually shave with them sharp.

I used this for sharpening knives on my original worksharp. I found the compounds included did not cut well on super hard steel(zdp189). But I also purchased diamond paste at the same time, expecting trouble. The compounds provided are very hard and crumbley, but a little oil helped a ton. The belts themselves seem to be good quality and I like the thickness. They do stretch some, but not enough to affect the usefulness.

These work great to get very sharp but they dont last to long and they are pricey
