Disappointed in performance so far
First time buying this brand, and probably the last. I'm going to give it a few more days, but there is a plastic taste in the water even after several days of use and plenty of flushing. I've purchased OEM and aftermarket filters for refrigerators for the last 20 years and this is the first filter to do anything like this. Was also surprised how much carbon filter particles came out in the water during the flushing process after install. Took nearly 2 gallons of water to clear. Haven't seen that in a filter before either. Can't return it since it was purchased many months ago and held in storage. Very disappointed so far. One positive is that it did fit well.Update: Out of the blue today, a new filter arrived at the door. Can only guess it was sent as a replacement based on my comments above. Installed the replacement filter and it seems to be working better than the original. I have to say that the customer service was excellent if it was Blue Signature who authorized the replacement. Will revise my rating to 4 stars based on the replacement filter received.

Great Product, Great Deal!!!!!
So I read most of the 1-3 stars review on this as I all ways do because that give me the most perspective on products. And after I weeded out the late nite haters and people who like to add silly reviews, I decided to go for it. I had been using another after market brand filter and bought 3 of them so they lasted me little over a year and half and I was satisfied. Well the last one was done and you could differently tell by the taste of the water. So after reading up on the NSF 42 and 53 certification and seeing that the last one I used was only 42 cert and not 53, I decided to give this one a shot. I followed the instructions on letting is site submerged in water for 15 min ( I actually let min sit for over 30 min) and then popped it in. I ran about 2 gallons of water though it and was really satisfied with the fresh tasting water. I see when people say that it might taste funny but that's because you've been drinking unfiltered water or using the wrong filters. I had no issue at all. No slow pour, bubbles, cloudiness, or charcoal particles. This is working great. I will be picking this up again when I'm do for my next change in 3 to 6 months.

At last, a quality replacement filter at a reasonable price!
I tried a cheaper replacement filter and was very disappointed. It was much lighter than the original, it seemed to be nothing more than about 1/4 of a filter's worth of activated charcoal granules, that shook that shook like a rattle. It made almost no difference in the off taste in our water and left ice cubes looking like frosted glass. The Sweetwater filter, on the other hand, weighed more than the original GE filter, with no shaking sound (the GE uses charcoal blocks, not loose granules). Unlike other replacement filters, this one is also NFS 53 compliant and claims to reduce Pharmaceuticals, Chlorine, Tastes, Odors and Cysts. Replacing the filter was easy (be sure prime it with water before installing, as per the instructios). There were no visible charcoal traces in the first gallon of water, and the water tastes great. It's not the cheapest replacement, but I can tell no difference between this and the GE filter that costs almost twice a much. Will buy again!

Very Satisfied
This seems to be a great replacement filter so far. I have had it a week and have no problems. The water tastes great and the installation was as simple as the previous model. I can say that I didn't have any issues with discolored water or carbon after the initial soak and install. I filled the canister and let it sit for about 10 minutes before installing it. It can be hard to fill completely but I just set it into a bowl and trickled water onto it until the bubbles stopped coming out of the top. Installed it into the fridge and ran a few pints of water through the system before drinking any. The water is clear and great tasting. I am on a well so this is really only a precaution for keeping any sand particles out of the system.I will be purchasing another when this one needs changed.

Be aware of 'tested' vs 'certified' in the filtration standard
While it isn't certified to remove 100% of cysts and heavy metals, the primary reason we bought this was to counter chlorine odor/taste and provide a final filtration. Better than tap, but I would spring for the more expensive brand name if I had poor or dangerous water to filter. Overall very satisfied and received what I paid for. One star off for the 'tested' vs 'certified' distinction as that could be confusing/misleading for consumers.

I wanted to like this filter but...
I wanted to like this product because the customer service was very good replacing the first filter I bought that did not provide me with clean tasting water. The customer service person thought it was due to a defective unit and sent a replacement. But, unfortunately the replacement provided the same result. When first installed the filter didn't do too badly. The water didn't taste as good as the two other filters we have used from other companies but it wasn't too bad. But, after about a week I started to notice a plastic taste to the water as as more time went on the taste got worse. After two tries with this company's filter I returned it for a refund and went back to the GE brand that we have had good experience with. After putting in the new GE filter I could notice a big difference in the taste of the water right away. So, we will stick with the GE filter even though these folks have been very nice.
