The Catch

You won't be able to stop until you get to the end!
A father can’t ignore the warning signals when his daughter announces her engagement. Everyone else seems to love the new man in her life, but he can’t shake the feeling that something is terribly wrong. What starts as an instinct becomes an obsession for a father who loves his daughter more than life itself. Author TM Logan is back with another winner in his book, The Catch.Ed Collier is reeling from the news: his 23-year-old daughter, Abbie, is marrying her boyfriend of just seven months. While Claire, Ed’s wife, is bubbling with happiness, Ed is wary. Ryan is almost a decade older than Abbie, and most of the relationship has been long distance. As much as Ed loves Abbie, he doesn’t understand why there’s this need to jump into a marriage. And Abbie and Ryan are ready to jump. Their intention to get married in six weeks reeks of suspicion. Abbie says they’re rushing because she wants to make sure her grandmother can attend. Ed’s mother-in-law has received a terminal diagnosis, and Abbie is close to her Nana Joyce. Apparently Ryan suggested it would be better to have the wedding sooner rather than later, and Claire and Joyce are both touched by the gesture.Ed, though, gets the strong impression that Ryan isn’t being honest. He’s saying all the right words and behaving in all the right ways, but Ed’s first meeting with Ryan is enough to tell him that this man doesn’t truly love Abbie. Not in the way she deserves, and not in the way any man should love a woman. He shares his concerns with Claire, but she believes Ed is being overcautious. A family tragedy from years earlier plus a bad breakup for Abbie with an old boyfriend has made Ed suspicious of everyone. Ryan, Claire pleads, is a great guy. He volunteers in the community and has a solid corporate job. He takes care of Abbie and is clearly interested in becoming a member of the family. Why can’t Ed see any of that?Ed makes an attempt to like Ryan and get to know him, but his inner radar keeps warning him to take action. He begins to follow Ryan and hires an investigator to look into him. Bit by bit, Ed begins to collect information that alarms him. He doesn’t know where to turn with what he knows, however, and so he continues to build on the cache of facts. His obsession drives him to a breaking point both professionally and personally, but he doesn’t care. No one is going to hurt Abbie ever again.Author TM Logan’s thriller twists the screws of suspense so tight readers won’t be able to stop turning pages. Logan uses a deft touch to encourage readers to question Ed’s methods, even as they root him on for looking out for his daughter. Is Ed just overly cautious because of the events of the past, or does he really have just cause to worry about Ryan? The novel teeters from one opinion to another in tantalizing fashion.Ed’s search for information on Ryan creates realistic problems for him at home and work. Logan displays with ease how Ed begins to turn all of his time and attention to his quest for the truth to the detriment of everything else in his life. Like any parent wanting to protect their child, Ed will stop at nothing. If the book could be faulted absolutely anywhere, it’s in the need for more details on Ryan. The novel switches points of view, so readers will hear from Ryan eventually. Many of Ryan’s actions are explained by the unfolding of the plot and Ryan himself, but the book needed to delve deeper into what makes Ryan tick as a person. The psychology of Ryan, in this psychological thriller, needed closer examination.Regardless, readers looking for a fast-paced book that will keep them guessing all the way to the end will enjoy this one. I recommend anyone who enjoys thrillers should Bookmark The Catch by TM Logan.

Another great read by T.M. Logan
I love T.M. Logan's books, everyone of them have been a great read.Ed Collier and his wife Claire are meeting their daughter Abbie's boyfriend Ryan for the first time. They have been dating for 8 months. Claire really likes Ryan, as does her mother Joyce. But Ed does not. While Ryan seems perfect (good job, was in the military, volunteers at a Hospice house), there is just something about him that Ed does not like. He has a gut instinct that Ryan is not who he seems to be. When Abbie and Ryan announce they are engaged and are going to get married in a month, Ed starts digging to find out who Ryan really is. Everyone loves Ryan so no one can understand why Ed is doing what he is doing. This book is told mainly from Ed's POV as he investigates and digs into Ryan and his past. And also the POV of Ryan, Claire and Abbie. This book flowed so well. Never a moment when I thought it dragged. I liked all the characters. Well all but one, I was team Ed all the way even before I knew anything about Ryan lolI really liked Ed, he will do anything to make sure his daughter is safe. Even when his actions started pulling their family apart he still had to make sure his daughter was going to be safe.As the end of the book neared the tension started to pick up. And even though I did figure out what the outcome was going to be it still had me gasp.Looking forward to T.M. Logan's next book.

Dissapointing
Hoped for so much more from this book as it has an appealing discription. Dad has a weird feeling about the guy, a lot of story evolves around his feeling. Sometimes quite descriptive and boring with him following around and stalking the fiance. End is quite expected, nothing new or wow.

Bad son-in-law
Easy to read suspenseful story of an astute father protecting his only daughter. A hunch prompts the father to investigate his soon to be son in law. Turns out the son in law is not very nice and has a sordid past.

LOVED this book!
T.M. Logan is one of my very favorite authors! One of those authors where you buy each new book without even reading what it is about!! And you can’t wait for the next! This book did not disappoint! I read it in 2 days, which is rare for me. Great plot, loved the characters, surprising twists. This is a must-read!

A great thriller
This is a fantastic thriller which makes you doubt yourself. Ed and Claire are shocked when their daughter, Abbie, brings home her new boyfriend for the first time and announces they are to be married in a matter of weeks. To all appearances, Ryan seems to be the perfect catch. Handsome, clever, ex military, university educated, with a good job. It doesn't take long for him to win over Claire and Abbie's grandmother, Joyce. Ed, however, has a 'bad feeling' about Ryan. Unable to persuade his daughter to have a long engagement, he has a matter of weeks to prove he is right. At points, you are right behind Ed, as Ryan definitely seems too good to be true. Then you start to feel sympathy for Ryan- he has done nothing wrong and is genuinely a nice guy. This tension continues throughout. It's a book which is so hard to put down and when you do step away, it makes you think about what you just read and whose side you fall on. The dynamics of a family are so well observed. A brilliant read.

So irritating, I gave up less than halfway through.
The behaviour of the central character, Ed, was so unrealistic and irritating, that I gave up less than halfway through.

The Catch (drop it)
Theres an acknowledgement at the end to a family member, thanking him for his great knowledge on how to successfully bury a body. T M Logan would have been better putting this advice to use and buried this idea on a dark moor before it went to print. Far fetched, annoying characters and a story which would have been better used as a Cagney & Lacey script.

Another great thriller from Logan
After reading The Holiday last year I couldn’t wait to read the next book by Logan and I wasn’t disappointed! This tells the story of Ed the father of Abbie who has just got engaged, however Ed doesn’t trust the new man in his daughters life and can’t put his finger on why...Or is he just being an over productive dad! This is such an easy thriller to get in too! It’s written in the perspective mainly of The dad however the other three main characters also lead some episodes.I read this within a few days and love it! Highly recommended!

T.M. Logan's best book yet!
I think The Catch is T.M. Logan’s best novel yet and I think it is definitely my favourite of his books so far. I flew through this book, and I devoured it all within just a couple of days. When Abbey brings home her new boyfriend, Ryan, for the first time, her father, Ed immediately notices something odd about him. Outwardly, Ryan seems perfect, but Ed sees something dark within him. But is he just being paranoid? Abbey and her mother certainly think so. When Abbey and Ryan announce they are getting married in six weeks time, Ed is determined to stop it. Ed can’t shake off the bad feeling he has about Ryan, and he won’t let his daughter make the wrong decision. But is Ed only causing a rift with his own family?T.M. Logan always manages to get the tension going in his books very early on. I knew there was something not quite right with Ryan, from the moment Ed first claps eyes on him. From the start, I was rooting for him to find the answers and T.M. Logan keeps the tension, turning up a notch as the countdown to the wedding begins. Ed knows that he only has limited time to find the truth about Ryan. This is what keeps the tension going as Ed starts to delve into Ryan’s past, and Ed begins to use surveillance to track where Ryan is going. But this action Ed was taking made me think that he was putting himself in unnecessary danger. At this point, I didn’t know if it would be a good thing for Ed to stop what he was doing and listen to his wife and daughter, or continue on his path.T.M. Logan creates an air of mystery about Ryan. As Ed goes after him, I was never sure if there was something dark and mysterious in his past. I definitely thought that there was something he was hiding, but there could also have been an innocent explanation of why this could be the case. As T.M. Logan begins to reveal Ryan’s true backstory, I wanted to see how Ryan and Ed were going to react. What course of action was Ryan going to take next? This is what leads to a nail-biting finale as I could see that things could go either way for Ed and his family. I raced through the final pages to find out what was going to happen.T.M. Logan always manages to tell an entertaining story, and he keeps you utterly gripped to his writing. If you’re a lover of psychological thrillers and if you haven’t read any of his books yet, then you don’t know what you’re missing out on. Top stuff!
