Open Source Intelligence Techniques: Resources for Searching and Analyzing Online Information

Mike continues to pour his heart and soul into this work. He is clear in his intention and detailed about his facts. It is a pleasure to also 'hear his voice' while reading, because you can clearly understand that he is using these tools. He is not a textbook writer; he is an intelligence professional who happens to write. My only complaint is volume (the damn thing is too heavy!). It may be time to break this work into a serial production, where sections are updated, but fundamentals remain constant, such as the OSINT model, legal and ethical treatise.The journey the 8th edition takes us on, is not merely updates and technical changes, but a clear demonstration of OSINT moving away from collection-to-analysis, to defined steps along each moment you are touching data. This book immediately gets us into Linux and platforms for preparation, which our work needs. He also shows our vulnerability-to-exposure is no longer something you can sock puppet your way out of. We need to move from the intelligence lifecycle to the scientific method to meet the need of discovery, evidence, and fact-based intelligence delivery.This may be Mike's 8th edition of one book and certainly he is busy in other areas, but I would say he is only getting started, and anything Bazzell produces is worth throwing in your backpack, no matter how heavy, because it is worth its weight! With all of the online courses on OSINT it gets daunting but with this book and his online course it’s all you need. Don’t get me wrong, there’s some great courses out there with some really talented people but if it gets to overwhelming then order this book and look into his course.

This was the second time I purchased this book, and they release a new version a month later. This is irritating because it's such a good resource that you have to purchase the new one. At least give a discount for those who recently purchased the prior version.

I read this book within 3 days and practice all the techniques like crazy. The good thing is that Bazzel gives you all the scripting so this saves you time for doing technical tasks manually.

More important than step by step instructions is the outcome of being able to take them and translate those steps into a structured approach to discovering information from old and new sources using similar or unique techniques using the type of thinking involved in the many exercises in this book.Add the authors podcast to your repertoire and you will stay up to date on the latest on everything related.Thanks Mike

This book is an absolute treasure trove of information, from tools to techniques.While this is not for the technically faint of heart, Mike does a great job explaining the technical side of things, taking some of the edge off with automation and providing some very functional walkthroughs (which is not an easy task!).

This is the 3rd instalment of this book I have purchased both for myself and for work. I would highly recommend it for anybody in a field that needs to search through and handle open source social media information.

An excellent source of information. I'm new to the OSINT 'game', this book came highly recommended and I can see why. I built the VM step by step to understand what was going on and afterwards ran the build script that is provided. I'm only about 25% of the way through but am very impressed. Money well spent.

Update: up to four start from two after reading. Still needs heavy editing, there is simply too much superfluous text.Technically the book has good information and if you're new to the field you'll likely to learn something.The amount of filler sentences and words though! Even with all the command listings the book should be half the size. The author uses KDP (self-publishing on Amazon), that's why the price is so high. With the code listings online and good editing he'd probably make more profit with less work having to maintain everything. For all the smarts of investigators - I could do with less hefty tome even though it might be good for my abs.

I purchased this to assist me with my day job and i have to say, its a great resource to go to from time to time.Its suggested that this can be used to build someone from having nothing set up for OSINT to being able to fully investigate and gain intelligence etc. As i haven't used this resource for that purpose and simply used it as an aid i cannot comment either way from that perspective.I think that if you have the last version then i wouldnt be rushing out to replace it, however if you are 2/3 versions behind or simply don't have a version yet this is the book for you.Its simply great.
