Nice read, but limited amount of the art of race car design within...
This book has been mistitled...there is very little about race car design in it. This is less Bob Riley's fault and more Jonathan Ingram's fault. Jonathan must not know anything about Race Car Design or even what those words mean. Here are two examples of the extent of technical depth of the book - please forgive the paraphrasing but it would be too much to go thru the book again to glean exact quotes:"so and so had a car built by somebody else that was giving them trouble. we were able to apply things we'd learned elsewhere to sort out their problem""make sure you don't have any crazy amounts of bump steer""I made it with fixed anti-dive...you don't want too much...production cars have too much"It's like that.Apologies to Mrs. Riley - I know that your husband is an excellent race car designer/constructor and I have no reason to believe he is anything but a great guy as well. But this book doesn't actually do justice to what he knows - and that's a disappointment as well as a waste of the money we'd gladly pay for a more useful book.Mind you that I wasn't expecting anything like a Carroll Smith book or Milliken's RCVD. This book can share a shelf comfortably enough with those "by" men like Mauro Forgheiri and Nigel Bennett and that's certainly not nothing. What this book is is a very nice tour and look back over a very fine career from a relatively high altitude occasionally dipping lower for limited conceptual interjections pertaining to the art of race car design. It's not just a coffee table book with nice pictures - I did enjoy and appreciate the shared recollections. Just don't hope for too much tech.

This book did my heart good
I read a great deal about racing and race cars. I've also worked on them for years and built and do track events with my own. I'm in to it. If you are remotely like me I suspect this book with add a depth of understanding, appreciation and insight to events that you've read about in the past or saw unfold on TV or while attending races. My prospective has been forever expanded.

Great background stories
A very good read, with interesting stories by many of the drivers and other individuals named in the book. More of a "how I did it" rather than a how-to book. You don't have to be interested in designing race cars to enjoy this book, just an interest in racing.

Hard work, careful consideration and diligent design = Outstanding Race Cars
An enjoyable story detailing of how Bob Riley learned the basics of race car engineering by seeing, doing, and developing a progression of race cars that have set the standard in so many classes of motorsports. A proven master in the craft of race car design and development.

A book even non engineers can enjoy
A very well thought out book in which the layman can understand. Bob Riley is an iconic American Race Car designer and this book is much appreciated. Great price as well!
