Climber 1 Parrot Stand Macaw African Grey Playstand

I 1st reviewed this after simply opening the box. Now I've assembled it, and while I've raised my rating, I still don't like it. Here's why:When first I opened the box and took a look at the design of this perch, I thought, this is exactly like a piece of junk I bought a few years ago. However, as I was planning to make a move soon, I didn't assemble the unit, so couldn't give a thorough review. Now that I have set it up, I find that it is, in fact, different from the one I purchased years ago, and in a couple of respects, it's better, but more on that after I tell you why you may not want to buy one of these.This is a perfect example of someone going to China with a product design that they wanted manufactured. In this case, I believe it is an Englishman, rather than an American. But, Englishmen want to make money just as much as Americans, and this is another example of a descent design being manufactured as cheaply as possible to maximize profits. But, don't blame the Chinese. They only build what they are asked to build, and I've seen some really nice stuff, when the designer is willing to pay for the best materials and processes. This isn't one of those cases.So, first, let's give them a small break and touch on the good points. It has a better system for mounting the seed catcher skirts to the base frame. They don't have sharp corners created by their mounting system on which you can cut you legs! A considerable improvement over my old unit. Also, it uses an insert, welded inside of the tubes that form its frame, into which the fasteners are screwed. This is superior to the thin metal tabs that were welded horizontally to the tubes, and through which the screws passed, to attach them to the base frame on the older one that I have, and which broke away from the tubes in short order and had to be re-welded (I'm just fortunate to know how to weld and have a wire feed welder to fix such things).However, while this is an improvement, it isn't a total solution, I don't believe, as the use of wide tolerances in the cutting and shaping of the frame tubes results in having to pull them in one direction, or the other, in order to get them to line up with the screw holes. This means that the entire frame, once fully assembled, is extremely stressed, putting a great deal of strain on every fastener and weld on the unit. Over time, if the unit is moved around much, this may result in some welds breaking, or the inserts in the frame tubes to break their welds and become free within the tubes. If this happens, the assembly will become very rickety, and possibly no longer even usable. Looking at the quality of the welds, I fear this will happen sooner rather than later.There are some proper welds, but this only goes to show that the designer/customer isn't willing to pay the Chinese factory for proper quality control, which tells me that the designer cares little about their customer, you, the end user. Also pointing to that, is the fact that the kit is poorly set up for you to assemble, with woefully inadequate instructions and no numbers on the parts to correspond with the drawings, making many of them extremely difficult to identify. I happen to be a mechanically oriented person, with over 45 years of experience in working with mechanical assemblies, everything from high tech formula racing cars to color additive motion picture printers to farm tractors. Had I not been, I'd not have been able to assemble this from the instructions, and even I found it annoyingly difficult. In the end, there were not enough of one type screw and too many of another - again, a lack of quality control - even in the packing department!Another quality issue is the thickness of the metal used for some parts, like rails that support the grate above the debris tray, which are paper thin, and the debris tray, itself, has a handle that, while made of some sort of metal, bends like a piece of rubber! As delivered, it was so bent that it couldn't possibly align with its mounting holes!! Making matters worse, it uses 2 very tiny metric screws to attach it, and one was missing. Try finding one at your local hardware or Home Depot! So, my debris tray has no handle.So, if you can get it assembled, is it bird worthy (probably the most important question)? NO! Unless you're willing to immediately replace the perch piece, itself. First problem is, the 'stick' is made of a very soft wood, wood so soft that a parakeet could chew it! My Military Macaw destroyed it within 10 minutes of mounting it for the 1st time! And, while the size of this assembly would seem to indicate it to be worthy of Macaws and Cockatoos, the diameter of the stick is only an inch. It should be bigger for the comfort of larger birds, but someone was't willing to pay the Chinese to do this! Nor were they willing to pay for a harder wood. Also, the designer's concern over the cost of assembly was again the priority when designing the method for mounting the 'perch stick' to the frame. Metal plates were stamped out with a slotted tab and the 'sticks' were slotted on each end to drop over those tabs, meaning a quick manufacturing process that leaves the end user with no easy way to mount a new 'stick'. Greedy and inconsiderate!Also, something that actually offends me, is the marketing gimmick that is the addition of the so called 'swing' perch. This 'swing' is attached to a piece of horizontal frame. On my old unit, this frame had a grill that the bird could walk on and stand on to play with toys suspended from above. As the 'swing' here really isn't a swing, but rather a very flimsy metal frame with a 3/4 inch stick at its bottom for the perch part, that is attached to the referenced frame with a vertical screw, making it absolutely immovable and not a swing at all, the frame it's attached to is wasted material. Had they put the grate in it and left the 'swing' off, it would have been more functional, but wouldn't have looked as fancy and attractive to the bird owner in the product photos.This thing comes with a fancy card, telling you that it's a genuine such and such brand. All it is, is a very low quality perch made in China, but again, don't blame the Chinese. They only build what they're asked to. Remember when 'made in Japan' was viewed in the same light? How are their products viewed now? I'll get use out of this, but not without almost re-engineering it! I'm sure that there may be some other customers who are satisfied with this product and who will give it a good review, but they must have purchased something else, or could it be that we're becoming so accustomed to this level of 'quality', that it's become acceptable?!?!?!?! If I owned Amazon, I would not want such a product on my shelf.

Arrived in good condition, easy to assemble. The wood perch is slotted on the ends and slips over a knob on each end to secure it. My african gray wasted no time destroying the perch. Finding a replacement is difficult. He's sitting on the metal bar that is normally beneath the wood perch now. The ladder in the middle on the bottom is right below where he sits. So he poops on it all day. I moved it to one side and that fixed the problem. Easy.

Love this made a few changes to it so just perfect now. put bowels that attached so bird can't throw them.

This need. better instruction to assemble, but it's nice looking and easy to clean. Most importantly my birds love it!

It said it was for a mccaw my bird ate through the perch in 1 hour no directions on how to put it together. I had to put the seed catcher upside down for it to work. Horrible I would send it back but it cost almost to send back as it did to get here. I think Amazon should quit advertising this product. Makes me scared to offer anything else from them

Very good playstand for large parrots very well made quite big but comes with wheels so easy to push round loads od places to hang toys will definitely keep your parrot active alday long

There are lots of styles available and i was hesitant even, a few days later when our parrot scared to go near it. By the end of week it is her favourite thing and I have taken second place. I would recommend it to anyone, very sturdy and well worth the money.
