Q: What size watch band does this watch take?

I’m not sure but I would just shot for smaller sizes or pop up in a jewelry store and ask.

Q: do I need to put batteries in it , watch does not work ?

Yes, it takes a 377/376 Energizer. You pop the back off with a very thin blade screwdriver. Mine went dead a couple days after I received it and has been working fine since. You can get the battery at Walmart
