Very good lens
I have had the Sigma 50-500 for a couple of months now and have been very pleased. I am a advertising professional with over 20 years carring a camera, old enough i have developed film☺. I have found this as good as my canon 100-400, although i have the old model. It gets soft at about 460 for me, and below about 70 but not real bad. You have to remember at long focal lengths there are other factors that can affect the softness, humidity for example. It's heavy but manageable. I also find the lock switch a little difficult to lock at times, kind of have to find the exact spot. Also the switch for os is easily turned off accidentally. I have shot this in a downpour thunderstorm with no protection and it was fine, build quality is what i expected, little flimsy compared to L glass but not plastic cheapy.Overall good lens for the money, you can use the grand you save buying this over the canon to go on a trip to actually USE your camera. It does get some attention so be prepared, it's not what you would call discreet.I have shot this almost always handheld with my Canon 5d IV, 6d II, 80D and on a t6. I was able to use it on my sony body with the sigma adapter(a7). All produced very good to great results for me, just shy of amazing results. For reasons unknown to science it seems my 80d body really likes this lens. If somebody wants to shoot wildlife and not spend 10 grand i would recommend that setup, but with a crop sensory and the 50-500 you need good light. Remember this lens is a 6.3. Don't expect it to give you the results your 70-200 2.8 will with golden hour light.

really good customer service from Sigma
I actually purchased this lens on sale several years ago for my Sony camera. The one I bought was f/4.0 - 6.3 version but otherwise it is the same lens. It is tack sharp between 150mm and 350mm a little softer under and over those ranges but only by a small margin....almost not even noticable. It is heavy so I shoot it almost exclusively from a tripod to ensure a steady hold. I've used it in wet weather and dusty climates and it has performed flawlessly. The only issue I had was when I upgraded to the Sony A65. The autofocus on My lens being an older version was not compatible with the new camera. A simple phone call to Sigma, shipped, fixed, and returned within 7 days...really good customer service from Sigma. My only cost was the ship it there fee. I use this lens for everything from nature, to wildlife, to location portrait work. It has the range and durability to provide excellant results. Auto focus is a little slow, but not so much as to be an issue. Manual focus, which I do use from time to time is clean and crisp.

excellent all around lens
excellent all around lens. replaces my older version which is still going strong after 19 years. love the versatility of 50 to 500 and this lens has stabilization. when traveling back roads this lens is usually always on my camera. grabbing it and shooting can not miss with 50 to 500 reach. wish it was a faster lens but then probably couldn't afford it then. excellent lens and reasonable price

Outstanding Versatile Zoom Lens
I use this lens for travel more often than my Canon L-Lens that are very fast but lack the zoom range. It allowed me to capture outdoor shots that I used to miss. I've had it over a year so Sigma may have something superior but this is an excellent lens for versatility.

Bueno, pero debe mejorar nitidez
El lente funciona bien, pero me defrauda un poco la nitidez de él desde los 400 mm hacia arriba.
