Gwenpool, The Unbelievable Vol. 1: Believe It

I'm an old guy in my mid-sixties. I've been reading DC and Marvel since I was able to read at all. And frankly I regard this (entire series, not just Vol 1) as THE most fun and clever graphic novel I've read in my life. The only thing that mars it is that one of the artists later in the story is... um... not so much too-Manga as just... not-too-good.And I think Marvel are ending the series, which is both unspeakably sad and unspeakably stupid. Gwenpool is one of the best things they've done. Ever.I wouldn't want to offend you (or who knows? Maybe I would - I'm a grumpy old man, after all), but if you don't like this series, there's probably something wrong with you, and you're either not a real fan, or you may have a psychiatric illness or brain disease. Or you're living in some universe that's even stupider than the one I'm stuck in.Look, just buy it, OK?

If you’re look for a fun comic that will make you laugh then look no further. Gwenpool is a woman who has somehow ended up in the comic world, she knows she’s in a comic and she is having fun exploring and trying to become a superhero.

Looking at Gwenpool from the perspective of someone who knows the bare essentials about Marvel comics (and everything about the Marvel Cinematic Universe), it is a remarkably accessible comic. While I wasn’t too keen on Gwenpool’s first appearance (neither the artwork nor the character) things soon make a change for the better. Once you discover Gwen’s origins, you find that it’s easier to see things from her perspective. Gwenpool Vol. 1 is a hilarious meta joyride with one of Marvel’s most ludicrous characters and I loved every second of it.

I’d never heard of Gwenpool, but I like the idea behind Deadpool and it was only £5 so I gave it a try .. great fun, good artwork, very pleased.
