Review Hubble Bubble has as many twists, darkness and drama as you would expect from the title, but its true strengths lay in its quieter moments and its humour. Any true romantic will be put under its spell. Read more About the Author JANE LOVERING was born in Devon, England but, following extradition procedures, now lives in Yorkshire.  She has five children, four cats, two dogs and doesn’t believe in housework so the bacteria and dust are approaching sentience and now rank among the pets.  Incidentally, she doesn’t believe in ironing either, and the children all learned self-defensive cookery at early ages.  She works in a local school and also teaches creative writing, which are extreme ways of avoiding the washing up.  Jane is a member of the Romantic Novelists’ Association and has a first class honours degree in creative writing. Jane writes romantic comedies which are often described as ‘quirky’.  One day she’s going to find out what that means. Read more

Laugh out loud humour with a dark edge
This is the first book I’d read by this author and loved the sharp wit and sparkling dialogue running throughout the story. Holly is a cynic where men are concerned and only goes to a women’s group whose leader is dabbling in magic to keep her friend out of trouble. But trouble finds them anyway. While she’s dealing with armed men and atrocious weather Holly meets Kai, a sexy, intelligent, world-weary Welsh journalist who is trying to unravel the secrets of his past. Their relationship is anything but easy path and is seamlessly woven into the story of the other women in the group who are all seeking their own forms of happiness. If you want a laugh out loud read with a deep layer of true emotion you’ll love this book.

Romantic comedy with bite!
Jane Lovering is the queen of quirky, innovative and outrageous romantic comedy and she is back with Hubble Bubble, a fabulous new novel that will make you laugh out loud as well as shed a tear or two.Holly Grey has got neither the time nor the inclination for a long-term relationship. Romance is certainly not on the agenda for the busy location scout who has got to juggle the incessant demands of her demanding job with looking after her brother and trying - and failing - to keep her best friend Megan out of mischief. Although Holly is always up for a bit of no-strings fun and is never short of admirers, she makes it perfectly clear to the opposite sex that she likes to keep things as casual as possible. So far, her resolution to remain unattached has worked perfectly, but when she decides to accompany Megan to a women's group run by the eccentric - and slightly scary - Vivienne that promises to make their wishes come true, Holly's desire to have a little bit of excitement in her life propels her into the path of sexy Welsh journalist Kai, whose smouldering eyes and brooding charm soon begin to get Holly all hot and bothered!Kai had learned at a very early age not to trust anybody and to keep his feelings and emotions under lock and key. Over the years, he'd grown used to keeping everybody at arm's length and to not letting anybody breach the impenetrable walls which he had built around himself. His work as an investigative reporter had sadly reinforced his belief that people are not to be trusted. Women might throw themselves at Kai on a regular basis, however the gorgeous Welshman is adamant that he will never let any woman get close to him - until his life is turned upside down by Holly Grey!Brought together by chance and circumstance, Holly and Kai soon begin to spend a lot of time together. Undeniable attraction quickly gives way to something deeper, but are Holly and Kai willing to let go of the past, face their demons and put their hearts on the line? Or will they let disquieting doubts and paralyzing fear condemn them to a lifetime of loneliness?Jane Lovering has got a wonderful gift for writing comedy and Hubble Bubble is a zesty-paced romp packed with irrepressible humour, delicious banter and side-splitting comedic moments that will have you howling with laughter. However, there's more to Hubble Bubble than light-hearted fun. As always, Jane Lovering deftly balances uproarious fun with affecting pathos and stirring emotional intensity, and although Hubble Bubble is wonderfully witty, it's always a poignant story about finding your place in the world, the burden of responsibility and the healing power of love.I absolutely adored the characters in Hubble Bubble. Jane Lovering's characters are flawed and damaged, but strong, fiery and gutsy. Holly and Kai are wonderfully nuanced and relatable and I am sure readers will cheer them on and take them to their hearts. The supporting cast of characters are also terrific and I absolutely adored batty Vivienne, sassy Cerys and kooky Megan.Smart, believable and impossible to resist, Hubble Bubble is the perfect book for readers looking for intelligently- written romantic comedy with bite! This review was originally published on Single Titles.

Fantastic Read
Hubble Bubble Toil and Trouble - this instantly came to mind when I saw the title of this book and I was delighted to find the author didn't disappoint me.Holly doesn't really believe in love, she goes for the physical every time. Her best friend is the opposite. Megan believes every guy she dates is her true love. Desperate to find the real thing Megan drags Holly along to a group of women wanting to practice a new branch of magic arts. Snorting with disbelief, Holly goes to make sure Megan isn't taken advantage of.The five very different women in the group collect ingredients and cast a spell, but Holly's disbelief is stretched when it seems her wish is coming true, but not in the way she anticipated. A casual meeting brings her into contact with a man who stirs her emotions, but she is determined to keep things on a business footing. This is fine until a pregnant woman forces them closer together. This novel has its ups and downs emotionally, but there are many light-hearted bits too and mysterious happenings in the woods. Are they magical? Or is it someone trying to scare the women away? I love the way the author wound the women's wishes together and how the resolution of each depended on her interaction with the group. The story moves at a steady pace with highs and lows, but at all times I wanted to know what was happening next.At the end of the book I was left wondering, did magic have a hand in the results? Or was it just coincidence? I really, really wanted it to be magic. Love this book! Well done, Ms Lovering.Originally posted at Long and Short Reviews

Favorite book read in 2015
Last October, I won a competition and this book was one of the prizes. How lucky I was! It's delightfully entertaining, with lots of funny lines, intriguing and/or very likeable characters and... maybe some magic? Just in case, if you make a wish, be careful how you word it. ;)
