A compelling read and a must-have for Faulkner fans
I have recently returned to Faulkner after being introduced to him in A-Level English decade ago. Having now read most of his novels I find him more rewarding than ever. This is a richly rewarding biography that helps make sense of Faulkner as a man and an author.

Excellent
An excellent, comprehensive biography to replace and supplant Blotner's two volume work, Rollyson here comes to Faulkner with a clean, new vision, grappling not only with his prose, themes, and legacy, but with what previous biographers have brought to the man's life and work. Rollyson's is not for newcomers to Faulkner; his bio requires knowledge--sometimes deep knowledge--of Faulkner's work. Very much worth the commitment.

The ultimate William Faulkner biography!
Carl Rollyson's William Faulkner 2 volume biography is the final such works concerning Faulkner. Beautifully written, valuable research on Faulkner's life and works. I am thankful in my lifetime that such a biography is available. Ten stars.

A valuable addition to Faulkner Scholarship
I appreciated what I define as the author's holistic approach; i. e., an interweaving of not only the author's life as it relates to his work, but also the interdependencies among the works themselves. Very much looking forward to the second volume.
