Best 8in Mid range hands down
Hands down the best 8in. Mid range. This will fit a factory bose 99-04 Miata door with a little cutting in the door panel. Not much, just the bottom edge.Sound: phenomenal. Add a small 250-500 watt amp, and it is amazing. Responsiveness is great.Figment: any factory hose Miata, these will fit. Take the plastic door trim off with the bose speaker, and this thing fits. Barely. Cut the inside panel and done. They do not make these anymore, and when I saw them I had to have them. For what they are and the price, you can not beat them. My other Miata has them and was disappointed when I couldn’t find them for my daily. If you want a great sound, great value, these 8s are it. The Rockford Fosgates are equal in quality and sound and are 40 bucks more. You can see the difference in size between the Audison 8s and the pioneer. Huge difference. Even in sound quality. Paid 240 for the Audisons, only because it was all I could find. Now, I’m happy.

Surprisingly good sound quality
Back in 1979 I bought a very expensive pair of home HiFi speakers (price then $400 - equivalent to $1500 today). In recent months I noticed that something was not quite right with the sound quality and when I removed the grill, realized that the woofer foam driver surround had disintegrated (picture attached). I know that foam replacements are available, but I wasn't sure how well they would work with the plastic cone and the rather unusual way the foam was glued to the back of the cone. I thought I would try these pioneer drivers instead and was pleased to find that they were a perfect fit and even the screw holes lined-up exactly (picture attached). The swap just took a few minutes per speaker.Even more surprising is that the sound quality from these Pioneer drivers was (best as I could tell) equivalent to my old drivers when they were still in good condition.I should add that my system does have a separate sub-woofer in-line before the speakers, so I really can't comment on the low frequency response because this part of the spectrum is handled by the sub-woofer and filtered out of the signal passed through to the speakers.

Excellent quality at a great price
If you're looking for a speaker with really good low mid-bass response and up don't hesitate on these. Far better then some of these other brands "mid-bass" speakers and don't break the bank.I love these speakers through and through. I've had a set of the 8's, 6.5's, and 3.5's for 6 years now in my daily driver. They still sound just as good as the day I bought them. Thus why I just bought another 3 sets of these, 2 sets for my Charger and one set for my Ram.One thing i will mention as loud as they are and as good as they sound with their frequency response i still recommend running a set of tweeters along with them. In my Durango i use the super tweeters which are a bit excessive but with amp gains down they blend perfectly and add the final touch. My other rides I use Skar Audio 2 way 3.5's off the head unit and it's perfect.

super under rated. these are the best pro audio woofers/ full range i have ever heard, ever
you really do get tweeter response from these without a tweeter. however getting a smaller set of tweeters to supplement what is already there is a good idea. tried to tune these to clipping with 1khz test tone i. literally had to stop because it hurt so bad, so i will never know just how loud these can get. these are amazingly efficient, also sounds like an expensive hifi sound system if you have a car stereo with 24 bit DAC. its a huge letdown finding out pioneer discontinued the pro line as a whole. otherwise this would be the last product range (except the subwoofers) for car audio i would ever buy for the rest of my life
O**.
They are very much a mid speaker. Careful what you use them for
Like other reviewers have stated these are not a great option to use as a "mid-bass speaker" pioneer shows it responds down to 50hz but In reality they only respond down to about 180 with any real power, I was giving them 90RMS and They are very loud and clear they require something like a 3" speaker to make up for the range they don't produce. I had them with a set of silk dome 1" tweeters and my old 6.5" speakers had better bass and mid highs. Having said all that in a 3 way system with a proper sub and a tweeter with a lower range i could see these speakers being perfect but in a 2 way setup in a car and with 1" tweeters I'd look else where maybe focal isu200's. I'm going to be using adapters to go back to 6.5"s for reference I was using these in a NB1 Miata that came with the Bose 8" and I wanted to see how these would work as some reviewers said good things.

Clear and loud
Cannot speak highly enough on how good clear and loud these speakers are. Went through 3 different sets of JBL's that cost 2 1/2 times as much, and while they didn't sound bad, they didn't come close to sounding like these. The do need to be matched with tweeters, and I would recommend the pioneer ts-a300tw.. highs are outstanding. Power handling is superb.

Muddy at best. Can't be used by themselves for anything.
these sit squarely in the mid range and have no bass or treble to speak of...they sound so bad by themselves and should not even be called "mid-bass" as they are bad at ANY bass.
