Drill America DWT64006 DWT Series Qualtech High-Speed Steel Pipe Tap, 1/4"-18 NPT

Had to chase threads on a coupling. Worked perfectly

This product is high speed steel so I was easily able to tap stainless steel. The price is right when compared to other hss taps. Don’t get roped into buying the carbon steel taps unless you’re in soft material like aluminum.

Only use this tap on mild steel. It will not cut anything that has been hardened.

Easy order, right price, reasonnable time received, right tool for treading plastics and soft metals.

I am by no means a machinist - I just needed to tap a 1/4" thick steel plate for an EGT sensor for my car. I drilled the hole with a size 'R' bit cobalt bit (also from Drill America), and this tap had no issue cutting the threads in the steel - just make sure to use cutting fluid (I like Tap Magic). I haven't used it on any other projects yet but the tap still looks brand new. I would definitely buy other Drill America taps in the future.

Perfect for cleaning the threads out of an old steam radiator up here in Jersey. Just thread half way like in the picture, made the threads look new. Made installing the air vent valve supper easy

Works great! Used to retap a rusted-out plumbing pipe in the wall.

Thought if I was careful and used lots of cutting oil I could thread eight holes.Only got six before it snapped.
